My Godfather Husband Gave Our Marriage a Zero, but Refused to Let Me Divorce Him Chapter 05

“She’s already married to a billionaire, yet she still isn’t satisfied.”

“Once her credit cards got cut, she lied about her mother’s illness to beg for money.”

“Now she’s working at a high-end club hunting for her next rich mark.”

“DM me for consultation services. I’ll teach you how to avoid gold diggers and stay away from manipulative women.”

The luxury resale shop also released its own video.

“This woman tried to pass off counterfeit goods here. Her husband caught her red-handed.

She knocked over our display case and caused fifty thousand dollars in damages. She still hasn’t paid a cent.”

The comment section tore me apart. They called me a gold digger, mocked my shameless greed, and demanded I pay what I owed.

I stood outside my mother’s hospital room, ice running through my veins, and dialed Rocco’s number.

“Rocco, we built everything together through hard times. You didn’t earn that fortune alone. Why won’t you defend me?”

Rocco’s voice stayed calm and detached. “It’s just internet gossip. It doesn’t matter that much.”

“You threatened divorce and got a job at that club to teach me a lesson, remember? Don’t worry. I’m not abandoning you, as long as you behave.”

“Write a detailed public apology, post it online, and I’ll send you a hundred-thousand-dollar allowance.”

He hung up.

A crash echoed inside the hospital room.

My heart lurched. “Mom, what happened?”

I pushed the door open. Her cell phone lay shattered on the floor.

The viral video slandering me was still playing on the cracked screen, my face staring back at me.

“Odette, why are all those people saying terrible things about you?”

Tears streamed down my mother’s cheeks. “Where is Rocco? He’s supposed to take good care of you. Why isn’t he defending you?”

“He sent me some supplements a few days ago, remember? I’m calling him right now to ask what’s going on.”

I tried to stop her, but I was too late.

The call connected, and Livia’s sneering voice came through the speaker.

“Calling for more money? You claimed you needed heart surgery. Why haven’t you died yet? Three months into the marriage, and you and your daughter waste no time showing your true colors, leeching off him.”

“Who are you? Why are you with Rocco?” My mother’s voice shook. “How dare you speak to my Odette like this!”

Livia let out a cold snort. “Who am I? Think about it. Why else would I be with Rocco at this hour?”

“You’d better teach your daughter how to be a proper wife. Instead of being a shameless whore who’s only after his money!”

I ended the call immediately. “Mom, don’t listen to her!”

But the damage was done.

My mother’s chest heaved violently. The heart monitor erupted in shrill, frantic alarms. Her hand, which had been clutching mine, went limp.

Doctors rushed her into the emergency room.

Time dragged on. Eventually the surgeon stepped out and slowly shook his head.

“Her heart couldn’t handle the shock. We did everything we could.”

I sank to my knees on the floor, sobbing uncontrollably.

Seven days later, the funeral was over.

Livia went live while the public backlash against me was still fresh, advertising her marriage coaching business.

The camera panned across brilliant white sand and crystal-clear Maldivian water.

She smiled into the lens and asked, “Rocco, what score would you give my marriage counseling service?”

Rocco stood beside her, his expression soft and affectionate as he answered.

“A perfect hundred points. You’ve shown me what marriage really is and helped me see my wife for who she really is. Thanks to your guidance, she’s calmed down. It’s been a full week without tantrums. She even sent every cent of the allowance I wired her straight back to me.”

I stared blankly at the livestream and turned it off.

I posted one final update online.

I shared old photos of Rocco and me in that cramped basement, my mother’s death certificate, and the unedited recording of Livia’s phone call.
