Friday night, my roommate dragged me to a graduation party.

“Come on, it’s our last one! If you skip, you’ll regret it!”

I almost said no.

Then I thought: Fine. Consider it a farewell.

The party was at a campus bar called The Final Score—a large private room in the back, with maybe twenty people there.

When I walked in, Liam and Savannah were already seated together.

One person apart.

It looked normal enough.

But I noticed Savannah’s elbow brushing Liam’s arm every so often. And his body tilting toward hers automatically.

I used to miss all of that.

Now I saw it everywhere.

Someone suggested Truth or Dare.

The bottle spun. The room got loud.

Third round, the bottle pointed at Savannah.

“Truth or Dare?”

“Dare!” Savannah grinned.

The guy asking was drunk, his voice carrying across the whole room.

“Dare—hug the person you like most right now!”

Cheers exploded.

Savannah’s cheeks went pink.

She hesitated for two seconds, then stood up and walked over to Liam.

She wrapped her arms around his neck from behind, hung onto him, and cooed, “You guys are so mean for making me do this!”

The room went dead quiet.

Then a massive roar erupted.

“Wow! Savannah and Liam?!”

“For real? Since when?!”

“Wait—where’s Jessica? Isn’t Jessica his girlfriend?”

Every head turned toward me.

Liam’s face went white.

He shoved Savannah off and shot me a panicked look, his mouth opening and closing.

“Jess, it’s not what you think.”

Savannah staggered back, her eyes instantly wet, frozen in place.

“Sorry, I—I drank too much.”

I watched it all.

Something churned in my chest.

Even knowing the truth beforehand, seeing it with my own eyes made me sick.

Four years.

Four years of my best self poured into this guy.

And this was how he repaid me—public humiliation.

I set down my glass, stood up quickly, and grabbed my jacket.

“Jessica!” Liam lunged for my wrist. “Let me explain!”

I shook him off—harder than I even expected.

“Don’t touch me.”

My voice shook.

Not from sadness.

From rage.

I glanced at Savannah.

She was staring back with those teary eyes, her mouth slightly open, like she was about to cry for sympathy.

Disgusting.

I turned and walked out.

The door slammed behind me, and the room fell into dead silence, followed by a wave of frantic whispers.

In the hallway, I heard Liam’s footsteps chasing after me.

“Jessica! Stop right there!”

He grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.

His face was a mess of anger and panic.

“What was that? You humiliated me in front of everyone!”

I pulled away, stepped back, and stared him down.

“Liam, do you even hear yourself? Your girlfriend’s best friend just hung all over you in public. And you’re mad at me?”

“It was a game! Just a dare!”

He gritted his teeth.

“Can you not make this into a whole thing?”

“A game?”

I laughed coldly.

“Then why did your face go white when you pushed her off? Part of the game too?”

He choked, his chest heaving.

Finally, he spat out, “Jessica, what is wrong with you lately? You won’t help Savannah. You won’t send money. You won’t reply to messages.”

“Now you’re picking fights. Are you doing this on purpose?”

I leaned against the wall, arms crossed, studying his reddening face.

This face had made my heart race for four years.

Now it just looked ugly.

“Liam. Let me ask you something.”

“What?!”

“Did you get early grad admission three months ago?”
