My Fiancé Sided With His Mischievous Childhood Friend, Until My Mother‑In‑Law Burst In Chapter 05

“Shut up,

“Victoria said coldly. “You don’t get to feel sorry for yourself yet.”

She turned to Richard.

He had already stationed the bodyguards at the door. The hotel’s general manager kept wiping.

sweat from his forehead.

“Mr. and Mrs. Ashford, the hotel will cooperate fully…”

Victoria laughed.

“Cooperate? Your wedding coordinator trapped the victim in this room, discouraged her from calling the police, and planned to hide the evidence under a wig. Is that your idea of cooperation?

Diana’s face turned chalk white.

Victoria looked at her. “Lily is an Ashford. If none of you will protect her, I will.”

I stared at her.

Those few words did more for me than any amount of comfort could have.

Chloe clutched her cheek and cried.

“You’re going too far, Victoria! Ethan and I grew up together. You used to love me too. I only played a joke on her, and you’re hitting me because of her?”

Victoria walked toward her one measured step at a time.

Chloe shrank back at once. “Stay away from me!”

Victoria stopped in front of her. “I used to be fond of you because I thought you were only spoiled.

Now I know you’re cruel.”

Chloe gritted her teeth. “It’s just hair!”

The rage slowly left Victoria’s eyes, replaced by something far colder.

“Fine. If it’s nothing, you can explain that to the police.”

She turned to a bodyguard. “Call them.”

Then she faced the hotel’s general manager.

“Preserve the hallway camera footage, the suite’s keycard logs, and every staff access record from

tonight. Now.”

Diana panicked. “Ms. Ashford, does this really need to involve the police? The wedding is

tomorrow…”

Victoria looked back at her. “The wedding? My daughter-in-law was attacked, and you’re still worried about the schedule?”

She pointed at the hair scattered across the floor.

“Collect all of that. The sheets, pillowcases, clippers, cream, and phones are evidence. No one

touches anything.”

Everyone stared at her in stunned silence.

The police arrived quickly, along with the hotel’s on-call medic.

Victoria draped a coat around my shoulders and turned up the thermostat. Then she sat beside me.

“Where does your scalp hurt the most?”

I pointed to the back of my head and behind my ears.

She examined the skin, and her voice dropped. “The skin is broken.”

Ethan stood nearby, his face bloodless. When he tried to approach, one look from Victoria stopped

him.

“Stay there and wait for the officers to question you.”

“Mom,” he said quietly, “I want to be with Lily.”

“Who were you with when she needed you?”

Ethan had no answer.

Chloe was still crying when the police began taking statements.

“It was only a prank. We always messed around like this growing up. Ethan knows that. I didn’t think she would overreact.”

Victoria sat on the couch and asked flatly, “Did Lily consent to having her hair cut?”

Chloe bit her lip and said nothing.

“Was she fully conscious?”

“No.”

“Did you know the antihistamine had made her drowsy?”

Chloe’s expression shifted.

Victoria continued. “What did you use?”

“Clippers.”

“Who supplied them?”

“I… brought them myself.”

“And the cream?”
