My Fiancé Postponed Our Marriage License Seventeen Times For His Intern Chapter 03

The next morning, I started packing.

Our bedroom closet was split down the middle—my side on the left, his on the right.

His section used to be all tailored suits, clean lines, muted tones.

Now it was filled with loud shirts in colors he would’ve never touched before.

Mireya had said they made him seem more approachable. Better with clients.

The suits I’d picked out for him sat untouched at the bottom, gathering dust.

I smiled faintly and began folding my clothes into the suitcase.

I was halfway through when the door opened.

Callen walked in.

The first thing I noticed was the shirt—soft pink, slightly wrinkled.

The second was the perfume. Not mine.

He stopped when he saw me, then spoke quickly, like he needed to get ahead of it.

“Mireya wanted to go out last night. It got late, so I booked a hotel.”

I nodded.

“Okay.”

Six months.

That was the first time he’d ever offered an explanation.

He stepped closer, his eyes landing on the suitcase.

“Business trip?”

“Yeah.”

Something in his shoulders loosened, almost imperceptibly.

“I’ve got something to take care of. Just came back to grab a few things.”

“Alright.”

I didn’t look up, just kept folding.

I’d planned to tell him over lunch that I’d resigned.

Now, it didn’t seem worth the effort.

He gave a short nod, rummaged through a drawer, and pulled out a red gift bag. Grabbing his coat, he was already heading for the door again.

The moment it shut behind him, something on the wall shifted.

The frame fell.

Glass shattered across the floor.

It was our wedding photo.

In it, he was wearing the suit I’d chosen. I was in a white dress, smiling like I believed every word he’d said.

That he’d love me. Protect me. Never let me down.

I stood there for a long time, staring at the image.

Then I crouched, picked up the shards one by one, and cleared the mess.

When I was done, I took the photo held it for a moment.

Then I let it go.

The photo.

And everything that came with it.
