My Fiancé Played a Couple-Swap Game, I’m Done Being The Outsider Chapter 05

“No.”

It had stopped being valuable the moment he took it off my finger and put it on hers.

At 1 AM, Dorian finally noticed I was gone.

Lilith was still drunk, clinging to his shoulder.

The others were still egging then; on, shouting for them to finish the “wedding night” game.

But Dorian was getting restless.

He called me a dozen times. All went to voicemail.

Ronan laughed. “She’s probably crying in her room.”

“Go give her a hug-she’ll be fine.”

Leander shrugged. “She survived seven blank cards.”

“You really think she’d actually leave? She’ll be back by morning.”

They all said that.

Because I’d never actually left before.

There was the time Dorian forgot to pick me up.

I waited in the rain for three hours.

My phone died.

My shoes were ruined.

When he showed up, all he said was, “Couldn’t you have just taken a cab?”

I cried and said we were done.

The next morning, when I heard his stomach was acting up, I still showed up at the hospital with

food.

There was the time Lilith’s boyfriend broke up with her late at night.

Dorian left me on my birthday to go comfort her.

I ate cake alone and made a wish-that he’d come back soon.

He got home at 4 AM.

Found me asleep at the table.

Ruffled my hair. Said, “You’re always so considerate.”

And I forgave him.

I’d forgiven him so many times that they all assumed-

no matter what they did, I’d always stay.

Dorian pushed open the door.

The pullout couch in the living room was empty.

My suitcase was gone.

He stood there for a moment, then reached for his car keys.

But Lilith wrapped her arms around him from behind.

“Where are you going? She just wants you to chase her.”

“If you do, she’ll use this every time she gets mad.”

He hesitated.

She’d always done this.

When I cried, Lilith said I was playing victim.

When I was angry, she told him not to give in.

Every fight, he waited for me to break first.

So this time, he set the keys down.

“Yeah. She’ll come back tomorrow.”

She didn’t.

The next morning, he saw the deleted e-vites.

He called the wedding planner.

“Resend the invitations to Lyra.”

A pause. “Mr. Sterling, Ms. Voss canceled the wedding last night.”

“All guests have been notified.”

His jaw tightened. “Who authorized that?”

“The contract was signed by Ms. Voss. She paid for everything. She had full authority to cancel.”
