My Fiancé Married My Adopted Sister, Then Called ME the Mistress?! Chapter 06

Staring at the pool of blood on the floor, Idris called out, “Shawna! Don’t think playing these tricks will work

on me!”

He searched the apartment several times over, but there was no sign of her anywhere.

With trembling hands, he dialed her number, only to hear the automated message signaling that he was

blocked.

An overwhelming sense of dread washed over him.

Unable to contain his panic, he drove straight to the hospital.

He remembered the diagnostic report he had ripped to shreds.

His heart felt like it was being cut into pieces, the sharp pain making his breathing ragged.

He searched for what felt like an eternity, until he finally spotted her figure at the end of a corridor.

She was walking with weak, unsteady steps, clearly exhausted and fragile.

“Shawna!”

He ran up to her, grabbing her shoulders to force her to face him.

His chest heaved as he panted, his voice rising in high-pitched anxiety.

“Shawna, are you really sick?”

“Tell me honestly!”

Shawna looked at his panicked expression and felt only irony.

She wanted him to let go of her, but the moment she opened her mouth, she gagged and coughed up a

mouthful of blood.

The blood splattered all over Idris’s chest.

Idris slowly looked down, and when he saw the bright red stain, his hands began to shake uncontrollably.

Even his breathing grew heavy and labored.

Shawna wanted to tell him she was sorry, but she had no strength left.

Before blacking out, she saw tears streaming down Idris’s pale face.

Shawna slept for a long time.

She dreamed of the day her mother woke up after the brain hemorrhage and told her the truth.

“Shawna, I never was a mistress or ruined anyone’s family.”

“The only time I remember being misunderstood was the year I worked as the secretary for the CEO of Quinn

Enterprises.”

That day, her mother had told her everything.

She said that both she and Andrea’s mother, Rylie Courtenay, were Idris’s father’s secretaries.

However, Harrison Quinn, Idris’s father, favoured Rylie much more, taking her along to every banquet and

important event.

On the day Idris’s mother lost her mind and stormed into the office, Harrison and Rylie were out attending an

event, leaving Shawna’s mother alone in the office.

Idris’s mother was mentally unstable at the time.

The moment she heard that Shawna’s mother was Harrison’s secretary, she lunged at her like a lunatic.

Even though she was eventually pulled away, Shawna’s mother’s reputation was ruined.

The real mistress never came forward.

Shortly after, Idris’s mother jumped from the building.

Unable to bear the whispers and pointing from her colleagues, Shawna’s mother had no choice but to resign.

She never expected that just a year after quitting, Rylie would show up at her doorstep holding a

three-year-old girl.

Only then did Shawna’s mother learn that Rylie was the one entangled with Harrison.

However, Rylie had fallen gravely ill, and Harrison refused to support her or a child that wasn’t his.

Fearing that no one would care for Andrea after her death, Rylie entrusted the child to Shawna’s mother.

Her mother took Andrea in out of friendship, never imagining she was raising an ungrateful snake.

Meanwhile, because Idris had seen his mother beat Shawna’s mother with his own eyes, he assumed

Shawna’s mother was the culprit behind his mother’s death.

He hid his identity and approached Shawna for revenge.

In Shawna’s dream, Idris was tall and handsome.

Though he was broke, he was hardworking and ambitious.

They had spent so many sweet moments together-cooking, traveling, and planning their future.

Yet all of it turned into a nightmare on their wedding day.

The world in Shawna’s dream began to spin.

When she opened her eyes again, she was out of surgery, lying on a hospital bed.

Idris sat by her bedside, his eyes bloodshot.

Seeing her wake up, a complex look crossed his face, his voice raspy.

“Shawna, I didn’t know you…”

Shawna looked at him coldly. “Didn’t know my mother died? Or didn’t know I actually have cancer and am really dying?”

Looking at his rimmed, red eyes, she felt nothing but disgust.

Because of his actions back then, a devastating chain reaction had been set off.

Even if he died of guilt now, it wouldn’t change anything for her.

Her mother was never coming back, and her health was permanently broken.
