My Fiance Claimed to Be from a Parallel Universe to Sleep with My Bestie Chapter 04

I moved into a hotel.

Once I finished canceling the engagement venue, the catering, and all the other loose ends, I planned to leave this city for good.

But the next day, I got a call from one of the company’s shareholders, telling me that Celeste had forced her way into the Promise Project.

She had replaced the entire project leadership team, and the project, which had been steadily profitable, had nearly ground to a halt.

The Promise Project was the first major project our company had landed when it was founded.

It was also the project I had secured after drinking my way through client dinner after client dinner until I suffered a stomach hemorrhage and was left with chronic stomach problems.

Even after I left the company, it was still the only project I was entitled to profit-sharing from.

Was Celeste really that desperate to replace me in every part of my life?

But this project was different.

It was something I had built from the ground up and nurtured like my own.

Back then, to keep the project running, many employees had sold their cars, put their homes on the line, and poured in everything they had.

What Celeste was doing now was no different from pulling the ladder up behind the very people who had put everything on the line for the project.

I went straight to the company to find her.

“Step away from this project. I’ll clean up the mess.”

I was not doing it for her.

I was doing it for my own conscience.

Celeste had barely blinked and put on a wounded expression before Marcus arrived after hearing the news, his face going cold the moment he saw me.

“If she wants to be involved in the project, she can be involved.”

“And if it loses money, then consider it practice for her. What does that have to do with you?”

My head buzzed.

For a second, I thought I had misheard him.

“What does it have to do with me?”

“Back then, because of this project, you held me on countless late-night sidewalks and begged me to keep going with you a little longer.”

“For this project, even after I later stepped away from the company, I still flew overseas several times a year to maintain the client relationships.”

“And now you want to hand years of work from all of us to someone else so she can use it for practice?”

“Marcus, what was everything I gave all these years supposed to be?”

“A joke?”

Many employees had gathered around us.

Marcus only looked more impatient.

“You know perfectly well whether this is really about the project or whether you’re deliberately making things difficult for Celeste.”

“If you keep causing a scene, I’ll have to call security.”

The face I had looked at for twenty-five years suddenly became so unfamiliar.

It was as if I had never known him at all.

A crushing wave of exhaustion swept over me.

I stared at his face one last time and said each word clearly.

“I’m selling all my shares in the company.”

“Please complete the transfer process as soon as possible.”

Marcus froze for a moment.

Then he seemed to relax.

“That works too.”

He probably thought that if I sold them, then I sold them.

After we married, he would support me anyway.

But I had been choking down this half-baked meal for a full year, and I had finally decided to scrape the whole plate into the trash.

I turned and left.
