My Family Faked the Apocalypse and Watched Me Die Chapter 08

My Family Faked the Apocalypse and Watched Me Die Chapter 08

For a split second, the temperature inside the morgue seemed to plummet.

Ryan and Ethan felt a chin race through their bodies. They stared at the officer in utter disbelief.

“What did you say?”

The officer set a tablet on the table. Its screen displayed the surveillance footage from outside the Bennett

Estate.

“When we received a report online that this might be a homicide, we pulled every surveillance recording from the estate covering the last three months.”

“One month ago, when Miss Chloe Bennett broke her leg, this footage clearly shows her jumping down the

stairs herself.”

“Miss Evelyn Bennett never laid a finger on her.”

The three of them stared at the screen.

With every second that passed, the despair and remorse on their faces grew deeper.

Ethan clutched his head. His expression was on the verge of collapse.

“So… she never pushed Chloe at all… and I kicked her down the stairs just to vent Chloe’s anger…”

Ryan’s eyes turned red. He sank heavily onto the floor

“Then… what was the point of the fake apocalypse we’d trapped her in for an entire month?”

Owen burst into hysterical sobs.

He rushed toward Chloe, pounding his tiny fists against her over and over.

“You bad woman! You framed Mommy! You kept pretending to be pitiful so we’d believe you!”

“You killed my mommy! Give my mommy back!”

Chloe tried to dodge him.

Before she could move, Ryan drove a brutal kick into her chest.

She was sent flying across the room.

Like a madman, he kicked her again and again.

Her ribs cracked one after another. Blood poured from her mouth.

She curled up on the floor, crying and begging.

“Ryan… please… please let me go…

“I only did it because I loved you so much… I was afraid she’d take all of you away from me… I never meant to kill her…”

“Ethan… please save me…

She reached desperately toward Ethan.

Instead of pity, she met a pair of furious, unfamiliar eyes.

“Chloe Bennett. I always thought you were the victim. I believed you needed my protection. So I stood by your side again and again.”

“But now, it seems you’ve been lying to me all along!”

“And not just this once. All those years… you kept deceiving me, didn’t you?”

“Evelyn… she was my real sister. You stole her place in this family for so many years. Didn’t you ever feel

guilty?”

Realizing no one would stand beside her anymore, desperation flashed through Chloe’s eyes.

Then, she suddenly laughed.

A cold, twisted laugh echoed through the morgue.

“Evelyn’s dead. You brought this on yourselves. It’s all your fault!”

“It was all of you who let me hurt her over and over again. None of you ever questioned me. You always took

my side!”

“You’re the ones who drove her to death, I only handed her the knife!”

She looked straight at Ethan. A cruel smile spread across her face.

“Since we’re telling the truth…”

“Your parents’ car crash wasn’t an accident. I hired someone to kill them.”

Ethan froze. His entire body went rigid.

Then overwhelming hatred flooded his eyes.

“It was you? Why? Weren’t Mom and Dad good enough to you?”

Chloe sneered.

“If they really good to me, they never would have taken me in all these years just to turn around and bring Evelyn Bennett back!”

She burst into manic laughter.

“They deserved to die! They actually wanted to send me back! They had it coming!”

Ethan’s eyes turned crimson.

With a roar, he lunged at Chloe.

His hands wrapped tightly around Chloe’s throat.

He squeezed with all his strength.

“You bitch! You killed my parents! You killed my sister! I’m going to kill you!”

The officers rushed forward to stop him. But Ryan stepped directly into their path.

By the time they forced Ethan away, Chloe had already stopped breathing.

Not long afterward, the verdicts were handed down.

Ethan Bennett was sentenced to life in prison for intentional homicide.

Ryan Mercer was sentenced to three years in prison for indirectly causing my death by perpetuating the apocalyptic lie.

The media swarmed the story.

Mercer Group’s stock price plummeted.

Within days, the company declared bankruptcy.

As for Owen…

Because of everything that had happened, he became the target of relentless bullying at school.

It wasn’t long before he seriously injured another student in a fight.

He was sent to juvenile detention.

My soul drifted quietly between heaven and earth.

I watched every one of them receive the punishment they deserved.

At last, there was nothing left tying me to this world.

I had no regrets.

I rose, higher and higher, into the light.
