He cried so hard that he could barely breathe.

It was as though his soul kad been ripped from his body.

Owen finally seemed to understand what had happened. He threw himself onto my body, sobbing uncontrollably.

“Mom… I’m sorry… I’ll never make you mad again!”

“Please don’t leave Dad and me… please come back…”

Ethan remained frozen where he stood.

The expression on his face shattered piece by piece. His eyes filled with despair.

“She killed herself…”

“Because of the lie. Because we made her believe the heat apocalypse had come…”

“We… we killed her.”

The three of them broke down together in the morgue.

Standing nearby, Chloe glanced at my body with unconcealed disgust.

Still, she forced a few tears from her eyes before throwing herself toward Ryan.

“How could this happen? Why would Evelyn do something like this?”

“If I’d known she was this fragile, I never would’ve suggested playing that fake apocalypse game! It’s all my

fault…”

She clung tightly to Ryan, crying so hard she could barely catch her breath.

She expected him to comfort her just like he always had.

Instead, Ryan stood perfectly still.

His eyes were fixed on the deep wound across my wrist.

Then slowly shifted to the bloodstained knife sealed inside the police evidence bag.

Without warning, he shoved Chloe away and staggered toward the officers.

His eyes were bloodshot as he stared at the knife.

His voice came out rough and hoarse.

… Where did this knife come from?”

Chloe froze. A flicker of panic crossed her face as she looked away.

“M-Maybe Evelyn hid it the basement herself?”

Ethan suddenly looked up. His eyes were bloodshot.

“That’s impossible! There wasn’t a knife in that basement before! I checked it myself!”

“The day I faked my death, she suddenly had a knife. Who put it in there?”

Ryan stared at Chloe.

The trust in his eyes shattered bit by bit until nothing remained but suspicion.

“You told us that Evelyn’s blood was fake.”

Chloe instinctively took a step back.

In a panic, she grabbed Owen and pulled him in front of her.

“Ryan… I didn’t lie.”

“If you don’t believe me, ask Owen.”

Before she could finish, Owen suddenly shoved her away,

Tears streamed down his face as he cried out,

“Mom never bought fake blood! Aunt Chloe told me to lie to you!”

The entire morgue fell into a dead silence.

Ethan stared at Chloe in disbelief. His eyes burned with anger.

“Chloe… how could you lie to us?”

Ryan’s gaze turned ice-cold. He looked at Chloe as though she were already dead.

“Chloe Bennett. That knife… it was yours, wasn’t it?”

Chloe stood there, pale as a sheet. Despair flashed across her face.

The next second, Ryan pulled up the surveillance footage without hesitation.

He fast-forwarded to the day Ethan had faked his death.

The basement door slowly opened just a crack. A hand slipped a knife through the gap.

The person’s face never appeared on camera. But the watch on that wrist was unmistakable.

A Patek Philippe.

The very same watch Chise had stolen from Evelyn as her birthday gift.

In that instant, the truth behind my death was finally exposed.

Ethan completely lost control.

He rushed over and slapped Chloe across the face so hard she crashed to the floor.

“Chloe Bennett! She was your sister! How could you do something so cruel to her?”

Ryan’s face twisted with hatred.

“You killed my Evelyn! I’ll make you pay for her life with yours

Before he could finish, Chloe burst into tears.

Her eyes reddened instantly.

“I didn’t do it on purpose! Evelyn always bullied me! I couldn’t take it anymore. I just wanted to get back at her!”

“I never thought she’d actually kill herself! All I did… was throw her a knife!”

“Have you forgotten? She pushed me downstairs. I suffered with a broken leg for an entire month!”

The room fell silent once again.

Then an officer spoke.

“Pushed you downstairs? Are you referring to the surveillance footage from the Bennett Estate a month ago?”

“We reviewed it.”

“The footage clearly shows that Miss Chloe Bennett jumped down the stairs herself.”

“Miss Evelyn Bennett never touched her.”
