My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 19

My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 19

There was a brief silence on the other end of the line, followed by my father’s stern yet unmistakably

concerned voice, “Have they been mistreating you?”

“Mm.” My nose stung, and for a moment, the grievances of three years threatened to spill over.

“Then come home. I’ll handle the rest.”

After I hung up, a black Rolls-Royce Phantom eased to a stop in front of me.

The driver stepped out and opened the door with respectful precision, “Miss Hart, Mr. Hart asked me to pick

you up.”

When we returned to the Hart Estate on the hillside, my parents were already waiting at the entrance.

Seeing me in such light clothing, with no luggage at all, my mother’s eyes immediately filled with tears. She

pulled me into her arms.

“My poor girl. How did you get so thin? What exactly did that Cole family do to you?”

My father said nothing, but when his gaze fell on the bruises around my wrist, marks left by Brian’s grip, his expression darkened to something frightening.

“Cameron!” he called out, his voice low and commanding.

“Yes, sir.” The butler stepped forward at once.

“That Brian Cole, and all the nonsense he’s stirred up online. I want results within thirty minutes.”

“Also notify Group Legal. Sue the person who posted it for defamation. And look into Brian and his sister’s workplaces. People with character like that don’t deserve jobs.”

“Yes, sir.”

I sat on the sofa, sipping the broth my mother had made herself, my emotions tangled.

For Brian’s ridiculous pride, I had given all this up and chosen a life of penny-pinching, of being pointed at

and insulted.

Looking back, I had been foolish beyond saving.

Less than twenty minutes later, Cameron returned with a tablet.

“Sir, miss. Online sentiment has been brought under control. The trending topics were taken down, and

Ashley’s account has been suspended.”

“We also found that Brian works as a dispatcher at a logistics company, and Ashley is a teacher at a private

preschool.”

My father snorted. “Someone like that teaching children is a disgrace. Have a word with their supervisors.”

“And one more thing,” I said, setting my cup down. “Brian’s house. The down payment may have come from his family, but that money was actually borrowed from his relatives. And, if I’m not mistaken, the land for that development belongs to one of the Hartwell Group’s subsidiaries, right?”

My father glanced at me, then nodded, “That’s right. If he’s so attached to that place, let him experience what real despair feels like inside it.”

“Get the car ready.” He stood and adjusted his jacket. “I’m going to the station to meet this family. I’d like to see who thinks they can bully my daughter.”

In the interrogation room, Brian and his mother were still shouting through the bars.

“My son is an honest man. What right do you have to arrest him?”

Brian looked defiant as well. “I want my lawyer. No, I want the media. I’m exposing this police-business

collusion.”

At that moment, the door opened.

The station chief personally escorted my father inside, his attitude respectful to the point of deference.

I followed behind him. When Brian saw me, his eyes lit up, convinced I was there to drop the charges.

“Elowen. You finally got scared? Hurry up and tell them you made it all up. Kneel and apologize to my mom

right now, and I might forgive you.”

My father cast him a cold glance.

“And… you are?” Brian stammered, facing the man whose presence alone was oppressive.

“Who am I?” My father let out a short, humorless laugh and pulled out a chair to sit. “I’m the father of the

‘wretched woman’ you keep talking about.”

“What?” Brian and his mother both stared.

“You… you’re her dad?” Margaret pointed at him. “This old man looks rich. Elowen, you little tramp, did you

find yourself a sugar daddy this old?”

Smack!

A sharp crack echoed through the room.

The bodyguard beside my father slapped Margaret hard.

“Watch your mouth! This is Richard Hart, CEO of Hartwell Group.”
