My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 17

My Ex Is My Boss and He Wants Me Back Chapter 17

The grin on Brian’s face froze. “W… what five million? It’s just some stupid plastic toy.”

I put my phone away and gave the head of security a calm order. “Lock the doors. Call the police.”

Then I turned back to Brian, the corner of my mouth lifting. “None of you is walking out of here today.”

“If you wanted to make a scene, I’ll give you one.”

“F… five million?” Brian’s voice cracked.

Margaret’s hand jerked, and the half of the vase she was still holding clattered to the floor. The swagger

drained out of her.

“Who are you trying to scare? That junk is worth five million? Is it made of diamond?” She screeched, her

neck stiff with defiance but her voice trembling underneath.

I didn’t bother arguing. I walked to the front desk and picked up the internal phone.

“Legal Department? Please come down immediately with a team. Also notify Mr. Wright, the bid meeting this

afternoon may need to be pushed back, but the loss here will be paid in full.”

I set the phone down, turned, and let my gaze rake over Brian’s paper-white face.

“Whether I’m bluffing, you’ll find out when the police and legal get here.”

“And since we’re being thorough, every piece in that model used specialty 3D-printed materials. Design fees,

labor, and the breach penalty. Five million is the conservative number.”

Brian went fully panicked. He looked to his mother for help, but Margaret had already dropped onto the floor,

launching into her favorite routine.

“You’re framing us! This black-hearted company is trying to cheat us! Bullying a poor elderly woman and her

son!”

“This woman’s a liar. She’s just a nobody here. Since when does she ‘manage’ anything worth millions?”

The employees around us had still been stunned, but at that, several of them looked at her like she’d lost her

mind.

Right then, Andrew Collins from Legal hurried down with two assistants.

When he saw me, he gave a respectful nod, “Ms. Hart, what happened?”

That one address landed like a sledgehammer in Brian and Margaret’s ears.

Brian’s eyes went wide. He stared at me, then at the sharply dressed attorney.

“M… Ms. Hart? What did you call her?”

Andrew adjusted his glasses and swept Brian with a cold glance. “This is our Regional Vice President, Ms. Elowen Hart. And you are?”

“V… Vice President?” Brian repeated it under his breath. “That can’t be… she said she was a clerk… four thousand a month…”

I watched him unravel and found it almost funny.

“Brian, I never said I was a clerk. You just decided I was.”

“You decided a woman belonged at home, that making a little side money was plenty.”

“It was your fragile pride that kept you from ever bothering to learn who I actually was.”

A few police officers walked into the lobby. “Who called? What happened?”

I stepped forward and pointed at the wreckage and the mother and son.

“Officers, these two entered our office and caused a disturbance. They deliberately destroyed high-value

company property. The amount is significant, and we have surveillance footage.”

Brian’s knees buckled. He almost dropped to the floor. “Officer, it’s just a misunderstanding. A misunderstanding.”

He lunged and grabbed at an officer’s sleeve, “This is a family issue. I’m her husband. Couples fight and break things, that’s not a crime, right?”

Margaret scrambled up, too, tears and snot everywhere. “That’s right, Officer! This is my daughter-in-law! How can you arrest someone from her own family?”

I cut in, voice flat, “Since yesterday, I’ve already demanded a divorce.”

“And this is a public office space. What they destroyed belongs to the company, not marital assets.”

“Mr. Collins, please coordinate with the officers regarding the evidence and the damage assessment report.”

Andrew nodded and began laying out the facts to the officers in a crisp, professional cadence.
