My Deskmate A Movie King Faked Cancer For Cash Chapter 05

“No way! I can’t take this!”

My voice cracked as I shoved the phone back toward him.

Julian glanced at it, then casually slid it back to my side:

“Whether you keep it is your choice. Sending it was mine.”

“But this is insane—”

He cut me off before I could finish.

Before he could say more, his phone buzzed. He glanced at the screen, a slight frown crossing his forehead:

“Sorry, that’s my agent. I have to take this.”

He stepped out of the booth, closing the door behind him.

I sat alone on the leather seat, staring at the string of zeros on my screen.

Five million dollars, sent just like that.

Suddenly, a sharp, twisting pain flared in my abdomen. I gasped, doubling over.

With trembling hands, I retrieved the prescription bottle from my purse, unscrewed the cap, and quickly swallowed two pills with a gulp of orange juice.

The bitter taste lingered in my throat, and I leaned back, waiting for the spasm to pass.

My phone buzzed again with a text from Julian:

[Let me make it up to you when I have a break, okay?]

I didn’t reply.

I shoved my phone into my bag and stood up to pay the bill, but the host informed me Julian had already settled it.

As soon as I stepped out of the restaurant, a wave of nausea hit me. I crouched by the curb, dry-heaving violently.

Passersby stared, but I simply wiped my mouth, stood up, and headed toward the subway station.

My phone vibrated again. Julian:

[Let me know when you get home.]

I typed out I’m home.

Then deleted it, sending only a brief Okay.
