My Deskmate A Movie King Faked Cancer For Cash Chapter 01

On New Year’s Eve, I got a text from my high school chemistry lab partner.

[Out of cash. Can I borrow some?]

Right after, he sent an image of a medical report.

Late-stage stomach cancer.

I instantly wired him every penny I had left, exactly $19,873.

[Is that enough for now?]

The other side went silent for a long time before sending a voice note.

His voice was clear and laced with amusement, vibrating right against my ear:

“How are you still this gullible?”

…

Clear, laughing, with a lazy drag at the end of his words.

My entire body froze, like someone had hit the pause button.

A second voice note followed immediately:

“Hey, dork. I’m filming a late-night talk show right now, just messing with you. Happy New Year.”

His tone was effortless. I could practically picture him leaning back in his chair, eyes curving with mischief.

I opened my mouth, but my throat was tight. It took me a few seconds to find my breath again.

[As long as you’re okay. Happy New Year!]

I sent the text and stared at the top of the screen where “typing…” flickered for a few seconds before going dark.

He didn’t reply again.

Fireworks erupted overhead, lighting up the night sky, but I had lost all interest.

I went home and buried my face under the blankets.

It made sense. Julian was an A-list actor now, an Oscar winner at such a young age. There was no way he actually needed to borrow money from me.
