My Dead Hero’s Wedding Chapter 10

My Dead Hero’s Wedding Chapter 10 Peace After All Pain

Three months later, our mission came to an end.

The weather was beautiful on the day we returned home. Caleb and I went to the City Hall together.

The registration process was quick. When we walked out, I held a red marriage certificate in my hand.

I was momentarily dazed.

Once upon a time, I had dreamed countless times of coming here with Adrian.

Four years later, I stood in the same place.

Yet married to another man.

A year later, I gave birth to a baby girl.

Caleb doted on her endlessly. We named her Bliss Quinn.

I once asked him if the name held a special meaning.

He looked at me for a long time and smiled,

‘Blessed you always.”

I smiled softly.

Mm.

I too, bless you a lifetime of peace.

After marriage, I lived as an ordinary housewife, occasionally taking on clerical security work.

Caleb became a world-renowned virologist, yet he devoted most of his time to our daughter and me.

Life was quiet and peaceful.

I had almost forgotten Adrian entirely.

Until the day our former captain came to visit.

He looked much older now, with grey streaks at his temples.

“Sienna… something terrible has happened to Adrian.”

My heart skipped a beat.

“Claire’s father was investigated for corruption. The scandal dragged her down as well. To get revenge, she leaked Adrian’s whereabouts to foreign mercenaries.

“He was ambushed while carrying out a mission at the border…”

The captain fell silent, but I understood the rest.

I stayed quiet for a long time before asking, “How is he?”

“He’s still in critical care, his condition extremely grave. He’s been unconscious, but he keeps calling your

name.”

The captain looked at me, “Sienna, go see him. Imay be the last chance you get.”

In the end, I agreed to go.

Caleb accompanied me.

Outside the intensive care unit, I saw Adrian lying on the hospital bed.

Tubes were attached all over his body, and his face was as pale as paper.

I watched him silently through the glass.

Five years ago, I had also lain in a hospital bed, clinging to life against all odds.

Now, it was his turn.

I did not go inside.

I turned to Caleb, “Let’s leave.”

Caleb held my hand, “Not staying a little longer?”

I shook my head, “No.”

All debts between us were settled.

All memories were meant to be left behind.

We turned and walked away.

I never looked back.

The moment I stepped away, Adrian’s fingers twitched.

The heartbeat monitor spiked wildly, then flatlined completely.

I did not attend Adrian’s funeral.

His tombstone stood side by side with the empty one I had seen five years ago.

This time, he was truly laid to rest there.

Claire was sentenced to life imprisonment, and their child was sent to an orphanage.

The former captain visited me once more and handed over Adrian’s belongings.

It was an encrypted hard drive.

The password was my birthday.

Inside was a single video file.

Footage captured by the camera on his helmet during that mission five years ago.

The picture shook violently, filled with the constant crack of gunfire and explosions.

Towards the end, he was struck by shrapnel and fell to the ground.

He looked in my direction and struggled to lift his hand, as if trying to grasp something.

His voice was faint and broken.

‘Sienna… live on…

‘Live on… for me…”

The screen turned to black.

I closed the computer and tucked the hard drive deep inside a drawer.

Caleb wrapped his arms around me from behind, “It’s all over now.”

leaned against his chest and nodded.

Yes, everything was over.

That winter, Caleb took our daughter and me to the north to see the snow.

Our little girl built a snowman in the snow, laughing like an angel.

Watching her, I smiled too.

My phone rang with an unfamiliar number.

answered it.

A young child’s voice came from the other end.

Hello, is this Aunt Sienna?”

‘Yes, it is.”

‘My name is Pryor Vale. My mother is Claire. Can I… can I meet you?”

I fell silent.

Caleb stepped beside me and took the phone, “Hello little one, tell me where you are. I’ll come pick you

We went to meet the boy in the end.

He bore a strong resemblance to Adrian, yet traces of Claire were also visible in his features.

He was thin and small, with a maturity and timidity far beyond his years.

He looked up at me and whispered, “Auntie, I’m sorry.”

I stroked his head gently, “You have done nothing wrong.”

The mistakes belonged to the adults.

Later, Caleb and I decided to adopt him.

He took our family name and became Pryor Quinn.

I prayed he would find a stable and loving home.

My life had known deep love, bitter hatred, and heart-wrenching partings.

But now, only peace remained.

Wren had finally found her nest and would fly no more.

I had no tombstone to mark my past, yet I lived fully with every new sunrise.

And that was enough.
