My Dad’s Cheating Had a Price Tag Until It Couldn’t Keep My Mom Here Chapter 04

Dad couldn’t believe she’d agreed so easily.

After a long silence, he had his assistant wire her five million.

Then he turned and headed for the door.

“Don’t worry. You’re the only one who’ll ever be my wife.”

He didn’t show his face again after that.

Mom stayed in the hospital for two more weeks. She was finally being discharged.

I was in the room packing up her things when the door slammed open.

He burst in, his eyes rimmed red.

“Did you hide her somewhere?”

Mom’s hands paused on a folded shirt.

“I have no idea what you’re talking about.”

He walked over and ripped the shirt out of her hands. It hit the floor.

“Don’t give me that!”

“Ondine is kind to everyone. You’re the only one who’s ever had a problem with her. She’s pregnant, and you’re still coming after her!”

Mom lifted her gaze. “I said I don’t know.”

He glared at her for a long, hard moment. Then he turned and left.

I thought that was the end of it.

The next day, I was grabbed outside my school and thrown into a van.

Two men hauled me into a basement.

I curled up in a corner and wrapped my arms around myself.

I don’t know how long I was there. Eventually, the door opened.

Dad walked in, the two men trailing behind him.

He stood over me and looked down.

“Elowen, call your mother. Tell her to release Ondine. Then I’ll let you go.”

I looked up. “Mom wouldn’t do something like that.”

He crouched to my level.

“Elowen, your mom went too far this time.”

“Ondine is carrying a child. If your mom’s hiding her somewhere, that’s two lives at stake.”

His voice was shaking.

I didn’t say a word.

We were at a standoff when the door burst open again, and Mom flew in.

“Elowen!”

She threw herself at me and wrapped me up tight.

“Elowen is your own daughter! How could you do this to her?!”

Dad just sneered. “Now you know what it feels like to lose a child.
When you went after her, did you ever stop to think how she’d feel?”

Mom’s body went rigid.

He kept going.

“Where is she?!”

“I let you see Elowen today. I can lock her up again tomorrow. Don’t test me.”

Mom was trembling all over.

Dad’s phone rang again.

“She’s back?”

He hung up and spun toward the door.

He didn’t look back at us. Not once.

Mom pulled me up from the floor. She wiped the dirt off my face, gentle.

She touched my head.

“Elowen, do you wanna leave with me?”

I wrapped my arms around her waist.

“Mom, I’ll go wherever you go. Whatever you decide, I’m with you.”

She tried to smile, but it barely held.

When she turned, I caught a glimpse of the divorce papers tucked inside her bag.
