My Cheating Boyfriend Thought I Was Obedient—So I Married Someone Else Chapter 03

The room went quiet. For a long time.

I couldn’t help but look up. Kael was studying me. Trying to figure out if I meant it.

Then he let out a short laugh.

“Break up?” He bent down, eyes reflecting two tiny versions of me. “Elara.”

He clicked his tongue, digging through his memory. “How old were you when we met, nineteen? Twenty?”

He shook his head. “Doesn’t matter. Back then you were just… good. Nothing special. Thick bangs, glasses so huge they ate half your face.”

He straightened up, adjusting his cuffs. “I asked if you wanted to give us a shot. You blushed and nodded, didn’t even think about it.”

“I also told you. I’m an asshole. I don’t force anyone to stay with me, and no one gets to force me to love just one.”

He looked at me now. Almost tender. He sighed. “And what’d you say back then? You said you were up for it.”

“And now you’re threatening to break up with me.” He wiped my tears with his thumb, like he genuinely couldn’t figure me out. “A little unfair, don’t you think?”

“Alright. Stop crying. You’ve handled it fine all these years. This time was on me—I won’t let you walk in on something like that again.”

He grabbed my shoulders and turned me around. His jaw rested against my shoulder.

A massive floor mirror faced us. It showed his absolute confidence. And my face, soaked with tears.

“You know how old that girl was? Twenty. You’re twenty-six now, aren’t you? Instead of using breakup tactics to keep me, maybe put some effort into the gym. Skincare.”

“After all, we fit best together. Everyone else was just passing through. No need to take them seriously.”

He had always been cruel. But he wore it under a face that beautiful. So even words like those came out sounding like a confession.

I didn’t have the strength to fight or scream. I felt like a puppet in Kael’s hands.

I moved, just slightly. Still unwavering.

“Kael. We’re breaking up—”

He laughed. Shrugged like it was nothing. “Fine. I heard you. Go ahead and break up.”

He checked his watch, grabbed his jacket, and kissed me like a storm rolling through.

“Be good. Remember to check out the room. I have a meeting.”

“The new season’s shoes and bags—I’ll have them sent to your place.”

“Everything else. I’ll make it up to you tonight.”

Maybe the word “breakup” had been used too many times between us. It had lost all its power.

In the beginning, Kael was the one who said it most.

He figured out before I did how much weight those two words carried.

“Elara. If you can’t handle it, you can leave.”

“You know I hate seeing you upset.”

I was cheap to please. So he’d smile and coax me back. Easy.

Then he’d move on like nothing happened.

But this time, I told myself.

Don’t soften. Don’t step back.

Besides. A breakup doesn’t need both people to agree.
