My Bully Mocked Me in Front of the CEO So I Destroyed Her in Seven Languages Chapter 10

“Then I’ll make sure you learn that in this company, talent isn’t the only thing that matters.”

She stood up and walked away.

I finished my coffee.

It tasted like crap.

Wendy was right about one thing-talent isn’t everything.

But she was dead wrong to think she was the only one holding any cards.

Monday, something big went down at GTS.

We landed a new whale: a fashion house out of Madrid, Spain, was moving into the U.S. market. They needed the full treatment-Spanish-to-English branding and total market localization.

Julian had snagged this from an old contact. The payout wasn’t huge, but the prestige was vital for the firm.

Problem was, the Spanish team was a ghost town. One translator quit last month, and the other just went on maternity

leave.

We were effectively “Spanish-less”.

Julian was losing his mind, pacing circles in his office.

Joseph cut to the chase. “Hazel, what’s your Spanish like?”

“I can get by.”

“What does ‘get by’ mean? Can you handle high-end brand localization or not?”

“Yes.”

“Good. You’re running point on this one, too.”

Wendy sat there, stone-faced.

But her nails dug a deep gouge into the armrest of her chair.

I spent a week living and breathing that Spanish brand.

Name, slogans, copy-I did dual versions for everything: a straight translation and a localized, New York-style

adaptation.

The Spanish brand director was so floored he personally called Joseph.

“Is your translator a local from Spain? The nuance is absolutely ‘spot on.”

Joseph was grinning like he’d just won the lottery.

He came straight to me after hanging up.

“Hazel, the Spanish team is obsessed with your work. They just greenlit the manuals, too-it’s a three-million-dollar

add-on.”

“Okay.”

“I’ll sign off on a separate bonus for you this month. Personally.”

“Thanks, Mr. Harrison.”

The second he left, Wendy blasted a message to the group.

“Just a reminder: all project assignments must follow official department protocols. Bypassing the team lead to accept work is a direct violation of procedure.”

Total silence. Not a single person hit reply.

After work, I ran into Julian in the elevator.

It was just the two of us.

He looked me over.

“Hazel, are you really ‘the girl with eight languages’?”

“Yeah.”

“You realize how rare you are in this industry, right?”

“I do.”

“Then why did you…” He hit the button for the lobby. “Look, heads up. Wendy is beyond pissed about you. She’s been in my ear about it constantly.”

“I know.”

“Watch your back. She’s got some… ‘friends’ in high places.”

His eyes dodged mine when he said “friends.”

I knew exactly what he was dancing around.

“Julian, about you and Wendy-”

“What about it?” His tone sharpened instantly.

“Nothing.”

The doors slid open.

He stepped out, then turned back after a few paces.

“Hazel, Wendy and I don’t have the kind of relationship you’re thinking of. She got the lead spot because of her

‘tenure’ and she knows the business. That’s it.”

He walked away.

I watched him go, thinking about those seventeen resort receipts Chloe found.

People are such fascinating liars, right?
