My Boyfriend’s Weekly Day Off Was For My Best Friend Chapter 07

My Boyfriend’s Weekly Day Off Was For My Best Friend Chapter 07

Early the next morning after the gala, pounding echoed through the hallway as someone

hammered on Gavin’s apartment door.

When it opened, I stood there with a cold, steady expression, two uniformed police officers behind

Gavin and Lorelei, faces bruised and scratched, stared at me in terror from the living room.

“Nadine… you finally came to see me?” A desperate glimmer of hope lit up Gavin’s eyes.

I didn’t spare him a single extra glance. My gaze went straight to Lorelei, huddled in the corner of

the sofa.

“Lorelei, you’re charged with second-degree burglary and grand larceny for the theft of My family heirloom.”

The two officers stepped forward, holding an arrest warrant, handcuffs at their belts.

“Hand over the valuable antique jade bangle left to Ms. Kingsley by her mother and come with us.”

Lorelei’s face turned deathly pale. She hid her right hand firmly behind her back.

“I won’t give it up! Why are you arresting me?! Gavin gave this to me! It’s mine!”

Her face was scarred, and she’d been fired from the company. That multi-million-dollar antique

bangle was her only shot at rebuilding her life. She would never let it go.

“Lorelei! Shut your mouth!” Gavin snapped back to reality.

Desperate to save himself and prove his loyalty to me, he lunged straight at Lorelei.

“That’s Nadine’s family heirloom! A bitch like you doesn’t deserve to touch it! Hand it over!”

“Gavin! Let go of me, you monster!”

Lorelei fought to shield her wrist, her nails tearing deep gashes into Gavin’s neck.

Gavin’s eyes turned wild with rage.

He pinned her arm down, a feral look in his eyes. Grabbing the ring finger holding the bangle, he wrenched it backward with brutal force.

A sharp, sickening crack echoed through the silent living room as the bone snapped.

“ААААААНННН –!”

Lorelei let out a piercing shriek, convulsing wildly on the floor as cold sweat soaked her body.

Unfazed, Gavin pried the jade bangle off her broken finger.

He scrambled over to my feet on his knees, holding the bangle out with both hands, his face twisted

in pleading desperation.

“Nadine! Look! I got it back for you!”

“It was all Lorelei’s theft. I had nothing to do with it!”

“You’ve always been the only one in my heart, Nadine. Can we start over? Please, I’m begging you!”

I refused to touch it directly. Instead, I pulled out a white silk cloth and carefully retrieved my mother’s heirloom through the fabric.

“Mom, I’m bringing you home.”

Mistaking my silence for forgiveness, Gavin reached eagerly for the hem of my dress.

“Nadine, you forgive me, right? We can-”

Crunch! I lifted my stiletto and slammed it down hard onto his right hand without mercy.

Gavin screamed in agony.

I looked down at him, my tone icy. “Forgive you? You are not worthy.”

“My mother’s relic is pure and untainted. The truly rotten, vile creatures are the two of you who desecrated her memory by having sex in front of her portrait.”

I lifted my foot and turned toward the officers.

“Officers, the witnesses and evidence are all here. Take them away.”

Lorelei’s face contorted in agony. As the police dragged her out the door, she screamed a curse at Gavin with every ounce of strength left in her body.

“Gavin! You broke my own hand just to save yourself! You spineless coward! You’ll never get Nadine! You’ll die a miserable death! I’ll haunt you as a ghost!!”

Her venomous shouts echoed down the hallway for a long time.

Left alone in the apartment, Gavin collapsed on the floor, his right hand mangled and bleeding, consumed by despair.

Three days later, Gavin’s company officially filed for bankruptcy.

The court seized all his assets. He was branded a financial pariah, drowning in eighty million dollars of debt, shunned by everyone.

With nowhere left to turn, he found out I’d been invited back to my alma mater to deliver a speech as a distinguished alumna.

On the ginkgo-lined avenue carpeted with fallen leaves, Gavin lunged into my path, filthy, his right hand wrapped in a dirty bandage.

He threw away all his dignity and begged in front of crowds of undergrads passing by.

“Nadine! I beg you, for the sake of our seven years together, save me one last time!”

His face was streaked with tears and grime.

“Do you remember this building? Six years ago, we worked day and night in that entrepreneurship center!”

campus

“When I won the Grand Prize at the Startup Pitch Competition and secured my first ten-million-dollar investment, you said I was the person you admired most in the world!”

“I was your first love, your pride! How can you stand by and watch me ruin?!”

More and more students gathered, whispering and pointing.

I stopped walking, disgust in my eyes.

“Admiration? Pride? Gavin, I was blind back then. I took the glory you stole and mistook it for

light.”

A heavy manila file folder suddenly landed with a dull thud, cutting off Gavin’s dramatic plea.

Cedric strode forward in a tailored black overcoat and stood calmly at my side, cold and composed.

“Gavin. It’s time you return the the genius title you stole.”

The folder hit the ground, and yellowed documents spilled everywhere.

They were the original drafts from the Startup Pitch Competition six years prior, patent

development signature sheets, and top-secret Parker Group venture capital evaluation reports

from that year.
