My Boyfriend of Six Years Gave My Dowry to Another Girl Chapter 04

Harlan took the agreement, signed beneath my name, and handed the documents to the bodyguard behind him.

“Keep these safe. Once we’re married, make sure she gets a copy.”

“Yes, sir.”

Harlan seemed noticeably happier once the papers were signed.

His phone chimed. He glanced at the screen and smiled.

“Dad’s already at your parents’ house.”

I checked my phone, but I didn’t have a single message.

“Already?”

“He’s excited.”

Harlan tossed his phone onto the table.

“He says he’s giving me a yacht next month.”

Before I could ask what that had to do with me, he gave me a knowing look.

“I’ll put it in both our names.”

I took a sip of my drink and laughed.

“Are you always this generous when you get married, Mr. Westcott?”

He answered as if it were obvious.

“I’ve dated plenty of women, but this is my first marriage. If you want anything else, name it.”

I couldn’t help laughing again.

“Nothing comes to mind.”

Harlan was in such a good mood that he called the manager over and bought out Auremont for the night.

Mom called me around the same time.

The lounge was too loud, so I stepped outside and found somewhere quiet to answer.

Mom sounded amused the moment I answered.

“Well, look at you, sweetheart. You went and did something huge without saying a word to us.”

I leaned against the wall.

“Mom, don’t tease me.”

She couldn’t hide the excitement in her voice.

“Sweetheart, you should’ve seen your father when he heard you’d broken up with Brennan and decided to marry Harlan. He got so excited he stomped so hard he cracked one of my custom-made floor tiles.”

“He walked out in the middle of a meeting about a five-million-dollar deal and went straight to meet Mr. Westcott.”

“Was all that necessary?”

“Of course it was.”

Mom huffed.

“Your father and I have been waiting six years for this.”

Her tone grew firmer.

“We never liked that opportunistic social climber. The sooner you got away from him, the better. Your father and I would never steer you wrong, and neither would the Westcotts.”

“Now that you’ve seen Brennan for what he is, your father can finally stop worrying.”

“I guess.”

We talked for a few more minutes before ending the call.

I retraced my steps, but after circling twice, I realized I had no idea how to get back.

Which way had I come?

Nothing around me looked familiar.

I was about to ask a staff member for directions when a burst of cheering came from nearby. I followed the sound and spotted Brennan and his friends.

They had taken over a section near the back of the main lounge.

Word that Harlan had bought out Auremont for the night had already spread. Everyone was talking about how generous he was.

One of Brennan’s friends put an arm around his shoulders.

“Your luck is unreal, Brennan. You decide to celebrate here the same night Harlan buys out the club. You just saved yourself a fortune.”

Someone beside him immediately cut in.

“What do you mean, luck? Harlan and Brennan go way back. Harlan obviously heard Brennan was getting married and bought the place out for him.”

Brennan leaned back on the couch, basking in their praise as he took a sip of his drink.

“Maybe.”

That only encouraged them.

“You two really are close. Harlan knows how to show up for a friend too. Auremont isn’t cheap, and he bought out the entire place without a second thought.”

Lennox leaned against Brennan, her eyes lighting up.

“Babe, are you and Harlan really that close?”

Brennan laughed.

“We are. We’ve known each other for years. When he comes down, I’ll introduce you.”

“Sounds good.”

As they spoke, the club manager arrived with several staff members carrying three bottles of top-shelf liquor.

He stopped in front of Brennan with a professional smile.

“Mr. Keene, Mr. Westcott asked us to send these over.”

Brennan looked surprised.

“Harlan sent them?”

“Yes. Mr. Westcott heard your wedding was coming up and asked me to congratulate both of you.”

The people around them immediately began cheering again, and Brennan looked even more confident.

“I told you Harlan always comes through.”

He examined one of the bottles, then showed the label to the friend beside him.

“These go for four grand a bottle,” he whispered.

He had the staff open one before casually asking the manager, “Where’s Harlan? Why hasn’t he come down?”

The manager answered honestly.

“Mr. Westcott got engaged tonight. He’ll probably come down once he’s finished upstairs.”

Brennan froze with the glass in his hand.

“He got engaged?”

“Yes.”

Brennan frowned.

“When did that happen?”

“Tonight.”

He turned to his friends.

“Did any of you know Harlan got engaged?”

They all shook their heads. One of them laughed.

“Harlan really kept that quiet. He didn’t tell any of us.”

Brennan fell silent for several seconds before turning back to the manager.

“Who did he get engaged to?”
