My Boyfriend and Best Friend Whispered in Spanish, My First Language Chapter 08

I turned back. “Mira, what did you just say?”

She hesitated. “I paid two hundred fifty thousand toward the down payment.”

“Elara, did you really think that house was your little love nest with Derek? I paid for it too.”

The hallway exploded with shocked whispers.

Derek rushed over and tried to cover her mouth.

“Mira, have you lost your mind?”

She shoved his hand away.

“Derek, you’re the one who promised you’d dump her so we could be together.”

“You’re the one who said she was still useful-that having her chip in made things easier.”

“Now that it’s all blown up, you’re trying to toss me aside? Dream on.”

I stood there, listening as they tore each other apart.

So this had always been the plan.

To them, I was nothing but an ATM. A tool.

Now that the act was over, neither of them bothered to keep up the charade.

The last five years suddenly felt like one long, cruel joke. The kind you can’t even laugh at.

Jasper’s face darkened.

“You two are disgusting.”

I raised a hand to stop him. Then I looked at Derek.

“The house-it’s in your name, isn’t it?”

He stayed silent.

Mira let out a cold laugh.

“Of course it is.”

“We paid for it. Why would your name be on it?”

I nodded. “Good.”

Then I turned to Jasper.

“Derek and I lived together for five years.”

“Over that time, he used money I transferred him-for the down payment, plus a long list of other expenses”

“I have complete records of every transfer. Can all of that be recovered?”

Jasper nodded. “Yes, Miss Vance. I’ll have it taken care of right away.”

The color vanished from Derek’s face.

I looked at him again.

“Do you even know how much money I gave you over the past five years?”

“The rent before we bought the house. Your mother’s medical bills. The debt from your failed startup.”

“Go home and do the math.”

His knees buckled.

“Elara, you can’t do this. You gave me that money willingly.”

“Willingly?” I laughed. “I gave it to my boyfriend.”

“Not to a liar who treated me like a personal ATM while sleeping with someone else.”

I glanced at Mira.

“She paid the other half of the down payment. So why didn’t you put her name on the deed?”

“Because you never trusted her either.”

“You wanted my money. And you wanted hers.”

“You’ve been freeloading off both of us this whole time, Derek. I’m almost impressed.”

“You don’t love either of us. You only love yourself.”

What little color was left vanished from his face.

Mira slowly turned to him, staring as if she were seeing him for the first time.

“Derek, Is that true?”

“The other half of the down payment came from Elara?”

He stammered, “Mira… I… I was just waiting for things to settle down, that’s all.”

“Waiting? Were you gonna string me along the same way you strung her along?”

The two of them started fighting again.

I’d seen enough. I turned and walked away.

At the exit, Jasper handed me a folder.

“Miss Vance. The due diligence report you asked for.”

I took It. Keller & Associates was printed across the cover.

I opened the file.

[Soraya Group was preparing to acquire a fifty-one percent controlling stake.]
