My Best Friend Feared Marriage, but Wanted My Boyfriend as Groom Chapter 04

“Ah!”

Natalie screamed.

Ethan stepped forward, reaching for me.

“What the hell are you doing?”

I spun around and slapped him hard across the face.

“What am I doing? Ethan, do you seriously have the nerve to ask me that?”

I stormed into the office, grabbed Natalie by the hair, and yanked her to her feet.

“What did you say to my mother? Why did she fall? Why?!”

Natalie quickly looked away.

“I… I don’t know what you’re talking about! Security! Someone get security!”

A crowd of employees had already gathered, whispering among themselves.

“Isn’t that Miss Brooks? Did her fiancé’s real girlfriend just catch her with him?”

“Wow. You’d never guess. She always seemed so classy.”

A tear slipped down Natalie’s cheek.

She looked helplessly at Ethan.

Ethan stepped forward and slapped me across the face.

“Can you calm down?”

Natalie burst into tears.

“Claire! I always thought you were my best friend! But why would you come here and cause a scene while I’m pregnant? Why can’t you just leave me alone?”

The people around us immediately started putting the pieces together.

“Oh, I get it now! Her best friend went after her husband!”

“I knew something was up. Mr. Carter comes to see Natalie every day. Why would he be seeing another woman?”

“Seriously, what a bitch. She stole her best friend’s husband.”

I stared straight at Ethan.

Ethan, tell them. Who’s the other woman?”

Ethan pressed his lips together.

After a long silence, he finally said hoarsely,

“Natalie is pregnant.”

Someone in the crowd threw a wad of trash at me.

“You’re still hanging around? You really thought you were something, huh? Turns out he doesn’t even want

you!”

Someone else shouted,

“Where’s security? Why the hell isn’t security here yet?”

Several security guards shoved their way through the crowd.

I lunged at Natalie, desperate to slap her again, but the guards grabbed me and slammed me to the floor.

I couldn’t move.

Several of Natalie’s friends and coworkers immediately surrounded me.

“Strip the homewrecker! Come on, everyone, get your phones out! Put it all over TikTok!”

In the chaos, someone grabbed my shirt.

Riiip.

The buttons at my collar tore free.

While the guards held me down, someone took advantage of the chaos and ran their hands over my body.

The disgusting, clammy touch made me want to throw up.

Then my eyes met Natalie’s.

She smiled at me.

There was nothing but triumph in her eyes.

People around us started laughing and commenting.

“Not gonna lie, she’s got a killer body. She’s gotta be at least a D cup.”

“I’d say bigger. Only one way to find out.”

I was completely helpless.

Then someone shouted,

“The cops are here! Put your phones away!”

At the precinct, Natalie was crying so hard her makeup had begun to run.

“She assaulted me! This was aggravated assault! You need to arrest her and press charges immediately!”

The officer looked exhausted as he turned toward Ethan.

“Mr. Carter, this appears to be a personal dispute that got out of hand. If you don’t want this turning into a court case, you could pursue a restraining order instead…”

Natalie clutched her stomach and grabbed Ethan’s hand.

“Ethan… I’m scared. My stomach really hurts.”

Ethan looked at me.

For a brief moment, I saw the conflict in his eyes.

Then he turned away.

“I’ve already broken up with her,” he told the officer.

I stared at him.

Not a single tear fell from my eyes.

Too much had happened over the past two days.

I’d cried so much that I didn’t even have tears left.

All I could feel was my life slowly dying inside me.

Like a flower shedding its petals one by one until nothing remained but a withered stem.

Not a trace of life.

A metallic taste of blood filled my mouth.

Then a man’s voice suddenly came from outside.

“Ethan Carter, come on. Have you got any conscience at all? You can’t just decide you’re done and walk away when she’s carrying your baby. That’s pretty damn heartless. I’d check your phone before saying another

word.”

Ethan shut to his feet.

He stared at me in disbelief.

But my eyes had already shifted toward the man walking through the door.
