My Best Friend Bought Me a Cursed Life Chapter 07

My Best Friend Bought Me a Cursed Life Chapter 07 The Ragdoll

Three months of peace.

Julian and I grew closer. He brought me back to the Hawke Estate and introduced me as his girlfriend.

Victor’s face darkened as he glowered, yet he clamped his jaw tight and said nothing–Julian’s resolve was unshakable, his ti to walk away from the family fortune clear and final.

I used my financial instincts to grow the Hawke Group’s portfolio.

The same people who’d sneered at “that Astor girl” now called me “Ms. Astor.”

But something was wrong.

Bella had vanished. I hadn’t seen her ghost in weeks.

But I felt like there was a pair of eyes watching me from the shadows.

Then Julian came home with a cat.

A Ragdoll. Her eyes were strikingly beautiful, a mesmerizing mix of deep sapphire and warm honey–gold.

“Found her on the street,” Julian said, scratching behind her ears with a soft smile.

“Figured she could keep the black one company.”

The black stray I’d adopted watched silently from the windowsill, its tail twitching slightly.

But it was the Ragdoll that made my hair stand up.

The way she looked at me. That mixture of venom, envy, and madness.

Bella.

She’d found a body.

“Mrrrow-” The Ragdoll rubbed against Julian’s leg, purring like a low, rumbling motor.

Julian melted. “Aren’t you sweet? I’ll call you Snow.”

As I watched this scene, a cold smile crossed my face.

Bella, do you really think that just by turning into a cat, you can turn the situation around?

That night, Julian went to shower.

I sat on the couch with a pair of nail clippers.

Snow jumped onto the coffee table, staring at me. A low growl rumbled deep in her tiny chest.

Although I couldn’t understand cat language, I could guess what she was saying.

It’s nothing more than phrases like “Ella, you’d better die” or “Julian is mine”

“Hey, Bella,” I said quietly

The cat went rigid.

“So you found a way to possess something after all.

Impressive.” I clipped the air with the nail clippers. “But here’s the thing ab being a cat. You need to maintain your–how shall I put this–claws.”

I grabbed her by the scruff.

Snow thrashed wildly, hissed menacingly, and clawed at my face.

But I’d learned a thing or two in my cat lifetime. I pinned down her paw and snipped quickly.

Snip.

Snip.

Snip

Bella was cursing, but to humans, it sounded nothing more than a piercing, mournful cat’s meow.

Julian burst out of the bathroom, wrapped in a towel. “What’s going on?”

I let go. She darted into Julian’s arms, trembling all over, holding up her bare paws.

“Just trimming her nails,” I said sweetly. “She didn’t like it much.”

Julian inspected the trimmed claws. They were a little short, but there was no sign of blood.

“Snow, be nice. Cecilia’s just helping.”

The cat froze.

She looked up at Julian, betrayed.

Maybe I walked over, wrapped my arm around his waist, and kissed his cheek. “Honey, this cat doesn’t like me. Maybe we should find her another home.”

Snow’s fur stood on end. She clung to Julian’s towel as if her very life hung on it.

“Don’t be silly,” Julian laughed. “She’ll come around. Hey, there’s a charity gala tomorrow night. You’ll come with me

I looked at the Ragdoll in his arms and smiled.

“Wouldn’t miss it.”

Game on, Bella.
