Since I decided to leave, I was leaving clean.

Nobody knew where I went.

Looking at the new trade alliance I’d built from scratch, I felt this quiet satisfaction. It hadn’t been that long, and I’d already gotten this far.

Just yesterday, Alpha Jaxon had signed the partnership agreement with iñë.

Without Zander, the world felt so much bigger. He’d been the one keeping me caged all along.

I was planning to stop by and grab some cookies. I’d always loved the taste from that shop.

“You haven’t changed a bit, still the same old you.”

His voice came from behind me just as I took the bag of cookies from the vendor. My hand froze for a second.

I remembered back when the pack was just starting out, when we were broke as hell. Right before the moon festival, we’d buy one bag of cookies and make it last weeks.

But after that, he never bought them for me again.

Eventually I stopped asking. The few times I did mention it, he’d sneer and say that kind of snack didn’t fit his status anymore.

The truth is, I never cared about the damn cookies.

I started to walk away, but he stepped in front of me.

“Aria. we’ve both cooled down. Can we talk? Stop avoiding this.”

My voice was flat. “Zander, there’s nothing to talk about. And I’m not avoiding you. I just don’t want to talk to you.”

I couldn’t be bothered finding some fancy place. We sat down on a park bench.

“Why?” I looked at him “You really don’t know?”

“All because of some private posts? Because only you could see them? Aria, you’re being way too dramatic.”

“Zander,” I said slowly, “you still don’t get it”

“You still don’t understand.”

“Aria, what Alpha doesn’t mess around? It’s totally normal.”

He said it like it was his birthright.

“But you were my mate. You weren’t supposed to.”

I pulled my hand away

“You don’t want to end this clean? Fine. Let me ask you those posts, did you write them or did Nyx? When did it start?”

“Was it the year I lost our pup? Or the year our pack finally got stable?”

“Maybe you think I’m overreacting. But you told another woman about everything between us, piece by piece. What were you two like when you talked about me? Did you laugh at me?”

“What exactly did you tell her about me?”

His hand loosened and his face changed. “You… you know everything?”

Nyx might as well have pinned that post. I was just too blind to see it.”

“No! No way! I never saw it!”

Looks like Nyx had blocked him from seeing it. Nice.

Thad dinner plans with Jaxon tonight. I didn’t have time to watch him feel guilty.

“Zander,” I stood up. “Remember to transfer that million. If we can’t end this nicely, then let’s never see each other again.”

“Aria! Grimm Pack is our life! It’s what we built together! You’re destroying it!”

How interesting. Now he remembered it was “ours.”
