When Kaelen finally reached me using a friend’s phone, his voice was clearly exhausted.

“Sera, you win. Because of the scandal you exposed, Linnet is completely finished, and the pack’s development has taken a hit. Come back and hold a press conference with me. Then I’ll mark you immediately. That should satisfy you,

right?”

For a moment, I wondered if something was seriously wrong with Kaelen’s head. How else could he still not get it?

I almost laughed from sheer anger. “Kaelen, we’re done. Just assume I did all of it. We’re over. Stop bothering me!”

Aldric was right beside me. Seeing my expression, he asked with concern.

His voice carried through the call, and Kaelen’s tone instantly turned vicious. “Who the hell are you with right now?! Why is there another wolf’s voice? Is that why you betrayed me?!”

I didn’t waste another breath and hung up.

Former colleagues occasionally sent me updates. Kaelen didn’t even glance at the new liaison before firing her.

As for Linnet, she’d been suspended by the pack’s council of elders. Since she’d always relied on Kaelen’s protection to do whatever she wanted, the entire pack practically threw a party over her suspension.

As for Kaelen himself, he suddenly vanished. Nobody knew where he’d gone.

I treated it all like background noise until he showed up at my new pack. Aldric and I had just stepped out of the car and were heading toward the training grounds when someone suddenly came charging over. My first instinct was to step in front of Aldric.

When I looked closer, I realized it was Kaelen. His eyes were bloodshot, his hair a mess. That unshakable confidence he

used to carry had completely evaporated.

When he saw me standing protectively in front of Aldric, disbelief flooded his eyes. “Sera, you’re protecting someone else in front of me now?”

“What else would I do? I’m Alpha Aldric’s warrior liaison. Should I be protecting you instead of him?” I shot back.

Aldric gently pulled me behind him, taking a protective stance. “Alpha Kaelen, Miss Nightwood has already broken up with you. As her ex, please show some basic respect.”

Kaelen lost it. “Ex? She’s my fated mate, my Luna! Who the hell are you to talk to me like that?!”

He looked at me and let out a bitter laugh. “Sera, five years between us, and now you’re using another wolf to put on a

show and get back at me? Cold as ice!”

“Fine. I admit it. You got what you wanted. Don’t you want witnesses? I brought reporters. I’ll mark you right now.

Then you come home with me, and we can end this circus.” As he spoke, he reached for my hand.

I’d hit my limit. The second he stepped closer, I slapped him hard across the face. His head whipped to the side. It took him a long moment before he turned back to look at me. The shock and pain in his eyes were crystal clear.

Something twisted in my chest, but I forced it down and said, word by word, “Alpha Kaelen, this is the last time I’m saying this seriously. So listen carefully. I’m not making a scene, and this isn’t some game. We are over. I will not be your liaison again, nor will I return to your side. Whoever you mark in the future has nothing to do with me.”

When I finished, I took Aldric’s hand and walked toward the field.

Behind me, Kaelen’s voice broke into a hoarse shout. “Sera! Are you really going to stay with an Alpha like him?! Only we can push each other to greater heights! If you don’t turn around right now, we’re finished!”

No matter how loud he shouted, I never once looked back.

As we walked inside, Aldric suddenly squeezed my hand. “Sera, trust me. One day, I’ll take him down. A warrior as

skilled as you doesn’t need him to prove a damn thing.”

I nodded.

After all, I had zero doubts about Aldric’s strength. The only thing he lacked compared to Kaelen was reputation.

Given the right opportunity, his abilities would shine through. And that day came a hell of a lot sooner than expected.
