Mom, Dad’s Getting Married Today. My Anniversary Call From The Future Chapter 06

Mom, Dad’s Getting Married Today. My Anniversary Call From The Future Chapter 06

I finished showing all the letters.

Then I held up every photo-each one clearly timestamped.

Rory with his arm around me on the track, making a heart.

Rory in the dead of winter, warming my hands, laughing with his neck tucked in.

Rory lifting me up at graduation, spinning me so my dress flared like an umbrella.

Every photo had a date. Clear as day.

“Rory and I got together eight years ago. We got married two years ago.”

“And for seven of those eight years, he was with Lena behind my back.”

“On our second anniversary, he got a marriage license with her.”

I closed my eyes. My whole body was shaking.

“Eight years of my youth. I stood by him when he had nothing.”

“I thought that was what love looked like. But reality slapped me across the face.”

“Eight years. All I got was a fake piece of paper. From a legal wife, to a mistress.”

The comments paused for a moment-then rolled faster.

“No way… so she was the real one all along?”

“That’s disgusting. Together for eight years, cheated for seven?”

“She looks genuinely heartbroken. If this is acting, she deserves an Oscar.”

Some viewers started digging up old posts.

Someone found screenshots from my college roommate’s social media-

proof that I’d been with Rory back then.

The hate started to die down.

A few scattered comments still lingered, but they sounded uncertain.

Then a wave of counterattacks hit.

“You’re all really believing a mistress?”

“Don’t be fooled. Mistress is mistress.”

“Those photos could be Al-generated. Don’t fall for it.”

“I know this girl. She was wild in college. Rory’s the real victim here-stuck with someone like her.”

A flood of bots swarmed the chat.

I knew exactly who sent them. I clenched my fists.

“Attack me all you want. But leave my parents out of it.”

“I’ve already pulled the hospital security footage.”

“Whoever pushed my mother, and whoever doxxed my family-I’m coming after every single one of you.”

The comments slowed.

Then a wave of new accounts poured in.

“I was Maren’s college classmate. I can confirm everything she said. Rory had nothing back then.”

“I remember them. They were the golden couple on campus.”

“Haven’t seen them in years. I can’t believe all this happened. Maren’s been through hell.”

A professor even shared the stream with a note: “I remember these two.”

Someone posted old study logs from when I helped Rory with his graduation thesis. Someone else found a

choir photo of us standing together in the center, both of us beaming.

Then an older alum-who’d lived in our dorm building-joined the audio chat, her voice shaking.

“I watched them the whole time. Who the hell is Lena? None of us knew her back then.”

The tide had turned completely.

Rory called.

I was silent in front of the camera.

I hadn’t expected so many old friends to speak up for me.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t move me.

My screen lit up and went dark-call after call.

Rory tried seven or eight times.

I didn’t pick up.

On the other side of town, the private room was in chaos.

Lena grabbed the phone streaming the live broadcast and smashed it against the wall. The screen

spiderwebbed.

She turned to Gemma, all warmth gone from her eyes.

Only fury remained.

“She still won’t let go?! She already apologized-why is she dragging this out again?”

Gemma put a hand on her shoulder and signaled to the others.

They pulled out their phones, some calling for more bots, others cursing me for not knowing my place.

Gemma lowered her voice.

“She’s jealous. She’s trying to ruin things for you and Rory.”

“Last time was too light-we need to make sure she can never come back from this.”

Lena’s eyes darkened with venom. Her lips pressed tight, her face red.

The rain grew heavier.

The stream kept running. The comments had changed.

“Sending love to her.”

“She’s been through so much.”

“Dump that trash.”

I leaned against the wall, holding my phone on my knee.

The last comment on the screen read: “Stay strong.”

I looked down and pressed end.

The screen went dark.

The door of the supply closet flew open from the outside.

The lock bounced off the wall and rolled to my feet.

Light spilled in from the hallway.

A figure stood in the doorway, backlit and familiar-Rory.

I stayed against the cold wall, not moving.

He was breathing hard, his tie loose, his hair disheveled.

This was the first time in three years I’d seen him like this-like a cornered animal.

His voice came out hoarse.

“Maren, are you done yet?”

Done?

I slowly looked up at him.

“After everything, you still think I’m just throwing a tantrum?”

He stepped forward, his shoe scraping against the lock on the floor.

He walked fast-like he was afraid I’d disappear.

I didn’t move.

I stayed right there, knees still pressed against the phone case where it had left a mark.

He crouched down and reached for my hand.

“I watched the livestream. Seeing all those memories of us-it hurt me too.”

“This is the last time. After this, we’ll go back to how things were.”

“I won’t let you run into Lena again. We can-”

Before he could finish, I raised my hand and slapped him across the face.

Hard.
