The family hired the most renowned psychological therapist in town.

The professional tried to soothe my mind, striving to get me to speak.

She asked gently about my name and my favorite things.

She also took out an exquisite doll, intending to gift it to me.

The doll wore lace garments and boasted bright blue glass eyes.

She attempted to place the toy into my hands.

I refused to take it, letting it fall onto the carpet between us.

She then brought out paintbrushes and drawing paper.

“Would you like to draw a picture? Anything you wish is fine.”

Yet I remained extremely vigilant toward all strangers.

I hugged my knees, stared silently at the doll, and didn’t utter a word.

One Sunday afternoon, I was sitting on the living room carpet.

Without warning, the enormous crystal chandelier overhead suddenly came crashing down.

Bang!

With a deafening crash, the lamp shattered into fragments right beside me.

In an instant, absolute silence enveloped the room.

I could even hear the faint sound of dust drifting through the air.

Then my scream tore through the dead quiet.

I completely broke down.

Screaming frantically, I scrambled on all fours under the table, curled into a trembling ball.

Uncontrollably, I repeated the same sentence over and over.

“I memorized it, Mom. There’s a reward.

My frantic breakdown froze every person present on the spot.

The butler, Silas, and Marcel, who had just come downstairs.

For the first time, they witnessed firsthand how deeply those past abuses had scarred my psyche.

Mom, who had locked herself away upstairs, heard my heart-wrenching cries.

She finally rushed down in a panic.

Watching me trembling and huddled under the table, her whole body shook.

Eventually, her legs gave way, and she dropped to her knees.

She reached out for me past the table legs, her face soaked with endless tears.

“I’m sorry.”

Her voice was shattered and broken.

“My baby, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault.”

She tried to crawl closer, her knees scraping softly against the floor.

Her appearance only worsened my panic.

The sight of her face brought back memories of the stones thrown at me, and the

brutal kick she’d planted in my stomach.

I slammed my head violently against the table leg beside me.

I didn’t stop until blood trickled down my forehead.

“Hurry! Pull her out!”

Silas and Marcel rushed forward, scrambling to rescue me from under the table, fearful of hurting me in the process.

Silas made desperate promises in a trembling voice.

“Don’t be afraid, baby. Daddy will buy you candy. Daddy will take you to play.”

Those hollow words held no comfort for me at all.

For the first time, Marcel wore a look of pure fear and helplessness in front of me.

“Stop. Don’t hurt yourself anymore.”

In the end, Silas had no choice but to order the butler to drag the distraught Mom away by force.

He knelt alone on the icy floor, whispering over and over in the softest tone he could muster.

“You’re safe now. Daddy’s here.

“No one will ever hurt you again.”

The doctor administered a sedative injection.

Even in my slumber, my fists remained tightly clenched, my brows furrowed in perpetual tension.

Silas stayed by my bedside the entire time.

He stared at the fresh wound on my forehead and the unremoved cast on my arm.

He lifted his hand to touch my cheek, yet his fingers trembled mid-air.

At last, he gently pried open my clenched fist. Inside lay a small round stone, the only thing I had brought from the mountains.

He did not take it away. Instead, he carefully closed my fingers back around it.

The agony in his eyes was overwhelming, threatening to consume him entirely.
