Mom Abandoned Me to Save Herself Chapter 03

Mom Abandoned Me to Save Herself Chapter 03 Mango Pudding and Threats
The next morning, I woke up. The butler informed me that Mom had learned of my mango allergy and sent for the doctor. I had no clue how she had found out. Her expression was inscrutable, layered with unreadable emotions. At noon, she deliberately ordered the kitchen to prepare mango pudding. As I headed to the main house to clean, Marcel “accidentally” dropped the pudding at my feet. Yellow pudding spilled across the floor, exuding a rich, sweet aroma. The scent stirred both desperate longing and crippling fear within me. Mom stood a short distance away, watching me with icy indifference. “Eat it.” Her voice carried no warmth whatsoever. “If you finish it, I’ll consider letting you stay.” Starving and famished, I craved nothing more than to pounce on the food. Yet the memory of last night’s near-death suffocation left me trembling in terror. I shook my head vigorously. My refusal was interpreted as blatant disobedience. Losing all self-control, she grabbed another plate of pudding and smashed it harshly against my face. Sticky dessert covered my eyes and nostrils, cutting off my breath. I didn’t cry or move an inch, standing rigidly in place. My silent defiance only fueled her fury further. “You’re just like your worthless father. Such an ungrateful creature no kindness can tame!” Before I could wipe the mess from my face, a large hand yanked me upright. It was Silas. He dragged me to a secluded corner, pressed me against the wall, and locked his fingers around my throat. The cold metal cufflink on his wrist scraped sharply against my cheek. My feet lifted off the ground, my breath instantly stolen, and my face flushed crimson. “I warn you. Stay far away from her.” His voice dropped to a low, menacing growl. “Grant her every wish, even if it costs you your life.” He released his grip. I collapsed to the ground, gasping raggedly for air. He stared down at me coldly. “Otherwise, I’ll send you straight back to that crippled bastard.” That afternoon, Marcel failed his piano competition. He vented all his frustration and resentment on me. He cornered me at the second-floor staircase and branded me a jinx. “It’s all your fault! Ever since you monster showed up, misfortune has plagued our family!” He shoved me with full force. I tumbled headlong down the stairs. My skull slammed against the hard wooden banister, my body rolling violently down every step until I crashed onto the cold ground-floor tiles. Agony exploded through my arm, the bone twisting at a grotesque, unnatural angle. The pain robbed me of all sound. Mom and Silas rushed out of the rooms at the commotion. They stood at the top of the staircase. Upstairs stood a terrified, tearful Marcel. Downstairs lay me, whimpering in agony. Mom’s gaze swept over me, her face blank for a fleeting second. Without hesitation, she hurried upstairs and pulled Marcel tightly into her arms. “It’s alright, Marcel. Mom’s here. None of this is your fault.” Silas didn’t glance at me once. He pulled out his phone, seemingly prepared to dispose of me. “That’s enough!” An elderly yet powerful voice echoed through the hall. An old gentleman leaning on a cane stepped out of the study. At the sight of him, Silas immediately put his phone away. His demeanor turned respectful. The old man glanced at Mom and Marcel upstairs, then at my broken figure on the floor, his face darkening with rage. He struck the floor sharply with his cane and barked an order. “What are you all standing around for? Send her to the hospital at once!”
