Mated to the Alpha Who Ruined Me Chapter 07

Mated to the Alpha Who Ruined Me Chapter 07

At five that afternoon, Kane’s personal styling team arrived right on time.

They brought with them dozens of custom gowns, and more jewelry than I could count.

I let them fuss over me, slipping into a burgundy velvet gown.

The design was simple, hugging my figure perfectly.

The makeup artist did a flawless, sharp look on me.

At six on the dot, Kane was home.

When he saw me, his ice-blue wolf eyes lit up, unmistakably.

He walked over, taking my hand naturally.

He pressed a gentleman’s kiss to the back of my hand.

“My lady, you look breathtaking tonight.”

His eyes were filled with awe and adoration.

What a performance.

It was so good I almost believed it.

I smiled at him, and said nothing.

The gala was held in the top-floor ballroom of the Wolf Alliance headquarters.

It was gilded, opulent, filled with the elite.

Nearly every Alpha, elder, and core member of the packs across North America was there.

When I walked in on Kane’s arm, every head turned.

Kane was the undisputed star of the room.

A constant stream of people came over to greet him, to make small talk.

“Alpha Walker, who might this be?”

A middle-aged Alpha with a beer belly stared at me.

Kane pulled me closer to his chest.

He smiled as he introduced me.

“My wife, Ella Walker. Luna of the Black Rock Pack.”

The words hit the room like a stone dropped in water.

A wave of gasps and quiet murmurs erupted around us.

Everyone knew Kane Walker had married an Omega who’d never awakened her wolf form years ago, but

he’d never brought her to a single public event.

This was the first time he’d officially announced my identity, to the entire Alliance.

I kept a polite, perfect smile on my face the whole time.

Playing my part in this loving husband and wife charade.

In the middle of the endless toasts and small talk, I made an excuse to get away from the suffocating room.

But I walked straight into someone.

I stumbled, and a hand reached out to steady me.

“Careful.”

A warm, gentle male voice sounded above me.

I lifted my head.

I saw a clean, handsome face.

He wore gold-rimmed glasses, a dark gray suit, looking polite and refined. He carried the inherent dominance of an Alpha, but he’d softened it into something gentle.

For some reason, he looked familiar.

“Thank you.

I steadied myself, stepping back to put space between us.

“Not at all.”

He smiled at me, his gaze falling to my left arm.

“Your arm…”

There was a flicker of curiosity in his eyes.

My stomach dropped.

“What about it?”

“Nothing.”

He pulled his gaze away, smiling softly.

“I just thought the scar on your arm looked just like the one an old friend of mine has.

An old friend?

My heart skipped a beat.

He just gave me a polite nod.

“I have some business to attend to. Excuse me.”

With that, he turned and walked away.

I stared at his back, sure I’d seen him somewhere before.

But I couldn’t place it.

When I got back to the ballroom, Kane was talking to a man.

When he saw me, he waved me over naturally.

I walked to his side.

“Ella, this is Rainer Fernandes, CEO of ACE Group.

Rainer, this is my luna, Ella.”

ACE Group?

Rainer Fernandes?

My gaze locked onto the man beside him.

The man was the same one who’d spoken to me in the hallway.

My pupils shrank to pinpricks.

That face.

That face with the glasses, the polite, refined features.

It slowly overlapped with the face of the boy from the academy, the one Kane had always targeted.

It was him.

Liam.

What was he doing here?

He was Kane’s sworn enemy, wasn’t he?

A million questions exploded in my head.

I froze in place, unable to react.

Kane noticed I was off.

He took my hand, wrapping it in his warm palm.

He looked at Liam, a faint, cold warning in his eyes.

“Rainer, my wife isn’t feeling well.

We’ll excuse ourselves.”
