Mated to the Alpha Who Ruined Me Chapter 06

Mated to the Alpha Who Ruined Me Chapter 06

Author: Heliotrope
I sat on the cold floor for a long time.
Only when my legs had gone completely numb did I finally push myself up against the wall and stagger to my feet.

Kane’s black SUV was slowly pulling out through the castle gates.

I stood there until the vehicle disappeared completely into the morning traffic.

The moment I was sure he was gone, I turned and rushed back into the study.

My hands were still shaking when I reopened the encrypted file bearing my name.

I scrolled straight to the bottom.

There was a new entry.

Edited three minutes before he left.

[Today’s Observation Log: Extreme emotional fluctuation; abnormal heart rate and respiratory frequency; panic and resistance reached peak levels. Subject has likely discovered irregularities. Continue close monitoring.]

And beneath it, one final line.

Plan B tonight.

My blood turned to ice.

What did that mean?

What was he going to do tonight?

Confront me?

Drug me?

Lock me up?

Or had the last three years only been the first stage of whatever he truly wanted from me?

A wave of nausea rolled through me so violently I had to brace both hands against the desk.

I sank into the chair in front of the terminal, staring at the dim glow of the screen.

Questions kept coming, one after another, like vines tightening around my throat.

What did he want from me?

Why start this plan in the first place?

What really happened back then, when I was fifteen?

And what the hell was waiting for me tonight?

The screen dimmed automatically, reflecting my own pale face back at me.

I looked like a stranger.

Then something inside me snapped tight.

No.

I would not sit here and wait for him to make the next move.

If tonight was his Plan B, then before night came, I needed answers.

My trembling fingers closed around my terminal, and I called the only person I could still trust.

Lila.

Lila had been my only real friend back at the academy, the Beta of the Timberwolf Pack.

Now she was one of the best information brokers in the Wolf Alliance, with ears in every territory and people owing her favors in every corner of the mountains.

When I chose to complete the mate bond with Kane, she had been the only one dead set against it.

I could still remember her voice from that day.

“Ella, are you out of your mind? An Alpha like that is a ticking time bomb.”

But I hadn’t listened.

The line clicked open.

“Hello? Ella? Why are you calling me this early?”

“Lila.”

The moment I heard her voice, mine started shaking uncontrollably.

“Ella?” Her tone changed instantly. “What happened? Why do you sound like that?”

I opened my mouth.

Then stopped.

How was I supposed to say it?

That Kane had bonded with me just to watch me?

That I had spent three years living inside something carefully designed, recorded, monitored—

and now, somewhere in that hidden file, there was a Plan B waiting for tonight?

“Talk to me,” Lila snapped. “Now.”

I dragged in a breath and forced myself to steady.

“Lila, I need you to look into something for me. I need the truth.”

There was no hesitation in her reply.

“Name it.”

I closed my eyes.

“Find out what really happened when I was forced out of the academy at fifteen.”

Silence.

A long one.

Then Lila exhaled.

“Fine. I’ll dig. But Ella, be careful. If Kane Walker is involved, I may not get everything.” She paused. “And don’t let him know you’re asking.”

The line went dead shortly after.

I lowered the terminal slowly, gripping it so tightly my knuckles hurt.

That was the only thread I had left.

Back then, when Kane drove me out of the academy, he had called me broken. A freak. Something that didn’t belong.

But later, I learned that same period had been the height of his conflict with Liam.

There had to be something buried underneath it.

Something no one had told me.

I spent the next few hours going through everything public I could find on Kane Walker.

The Walker Group.

Mining. Energy. Real estate. Infrastructure.

Its grip on the Rocky Mountains was absolute.

And Kane—youngest heir in company history. Brilliant. Ruthless. Untouchable.

His public image was spotless.

Too spotless.

The more I read, the colder I felt.

A man like that didn’t leave loose ends.

A man like that didn’t write Plan B tonight unless he already knew exactly how the night would end.

My terminal rang in the afternoon.

Kane.

The sight of his name on the screen made my pulse jump so hard it hurt.

I stared at it for two seconds before answering.

“Ella,” he said softly, “what’s wrong with you today? I’ve been feeling your emotions all over the place.”

For one horrible moment, I forgot about the mind-link between us.

I forced my breathing to even out, digging my nails into my palm until the pain steadied me.

“It’s nothing,” I said. “Just the project I took on. It’s a mess.”

He sighed, quiet and concerned, the perfect husband again.

“Don’t push yourself too hard.”

“There’s a gala this afternoon. I’ll come pick you up.”

My fingers tightened around the terminal.

Tonight.

The same night written in that file.

My throat felt tight.

But when I spoke, my voice sounded almost normal.

“Okay.”

Night was coming.

And whatever Kane Walker had planned for me—it had already begun.
