Mafia Don’s Little Silent Wife Chapter 03

Mafia Don’s Little Silent Wife Chapter 03

The monthly dinner for the Moretti family took place at the end of the first month.

It was the old Don’s rule.

On the fifteenth of every month, all the major branches of the family had to gather at the Moretti estate’s family hall for a meal.

It was a family dinner in name.

In reality, it was the best place outside of the family council to watch everyone’s loyalties shift.

I brought Bianca with me.

She wore a light gray gown with her hair pinned up, accessorized with a pair of pearl earrings.

I had picked them out for her.

They were nothing extravagant.

I had just grabbed them on a whim while passing a jewelry store the other day.

“Time to go,” I said, standing in front of her and slowing down my lip movements.

She understood, nodded, and followed me out.

The people at these dinners grew more sickening every time I saw them.

Maria was my uncle’s daughter-in-law. She held no real power, but she loved throwing around the weight of the old family name.

She was the first to crowd around us.

“So this is the replacement bride from the Romano family?”

She looked Bianca up and down with a fake smile.

“She looks sweet enough. Shame she can’t hear a thing, though…”

Maria reached out and snapped her fingers right in front of Bianca’s face.

Bianca gave no reaction.

Her eyes remained fixed on the water glass in front of her.

Maria laughed, turning to the other women nearby.

“She really can’t hear a thing. Rocco definitely got an easy deal with this marriage, bringing home a piece of furniture that can’t leak any secrets.”

A few of the wives chuckled along.

“I heard she was a substitute?”

“Alessandra ran away, so the Romano family just pushed this younger one out.”

“Does this even count as an alliance bride? She’s just the leftover…”

The sentence was never finished.

Because I set my water glass down on the table.

The bottom hit the marble with a dull clink.

The sound wasn’t loud.

But the entire long table fell dead silent in an instant.

I didn’t say a word.

I just looked at the woman.

The smile froze on her face.

“Rocco, I was only joking.”

“My wife,” I said.

Two words.

The entire room went still.

“Anyone who laughs at her can skip dinner tonight.”

My tone was completely flat.

But no one sitting there was ignorant of what it meant when I said someone didn’t need to finish their dinner.

The last person who heard those words was still using a wheelchair.

Maria was the first to lift her wine glass. “Bianca is so beautiful. Come on, let’s welcome our new Donna.”

I ignored her.

I stood up and moved next to Bianca.

She sat there with her food barely touched.

I pulled her plate of steak over, cut it into bite-sized pieces one by one, and set it back down in front of her.

She looked up at me.

Something flickered in her eyes for a split second.

Then she lowered her head again.

She obediently ate her steak.

On the drive back, I sat in the backseat looking at my phone.

She leaned against the opposite window.

“Ignore those people,” I said without looking up.

“A bunch of useless old family parasites living off a surname. Their mouths are the only things that actually work.”

She gave no reply, of course.

“The steak was good tonight. I’ll have our cook make it tomorrow, too,” I added.

The streetlights flashed past the car window one by one.

Her profile reflected in the glass.

The corner of her mouth seemed to curve up just a fraction.

It was probably just an illusion from the lights.
