Mafia Don’s Little Silent Wife Chapter 01

Mafia Don’s Little Silent Wife Chapter 01

The entire Moretti family knew the eldest daughter of the Romano family had fled the wedding.

And then they shoved a replacement bride onto me—the younger daughter, the one the Romanos had claimed was completely deaf.

I, Rocco Moretti, the acting Don of the Moretti family, ran this city. No one dared stand in my way.

Yet on my wedding day, my bride changed from Alessandra Romano to Bianca Romano.

Fine.

Her being deaf worked out just fine for me.

Over the next three years, I dumped everything onto her.

My curses, my secrets, my frustrations, and even the confessions of love I refused to admit to myself.

“You little deaf, why are you so soft everywhere?”

“Sweetheart, you look lethal when you blush. If I tease you a little more, will you finally snap and curse at me?”

She raised her hands and signed.

I asked her what it meant.

She looked up at me and spoke slowly, “I… I said you’re amazing.”

Later, I specifically learned sign language.

Only then did I realize what she actually signed back then.

[You arrogant idiot.]

The oldest Romano girl ran away on the wedding day.

I stood in the private suite on the top floor of the hotel.

Before the whiskey even touched my lips, Vincent pushed the door open.

He was my consigliere and my most trusted right hand.

No matter how bad things got, he kept a face like carved marble.

But that day, sweat beaded on his temples.

“Don, the Romanos have a situation.”

I set my glass down. “Speak.”

“Alessandra climbed out of her window at four in the morning. No luggage. She went straight to the airport. The Romano estate is in absolute chaos right now.”

I laughed.

The alliance between the Moretti family and the Romano family was locked in by the old Don and the family council.

The Romano family needed our docks for several shipping routes on the northern line.

The Moretti family needed their maritime resources and customs contacts.

To put it plainly, this wedding wasn’t about love.

It was an alliance contract.

The bride was merely the signature on the final page.

Now, the signature had run away.

I set my glass onto the table softly.

But Vincent immediately bowed his head.

“Tell the Romano family I want an answer. They have one hour.”

Forty minutes later, the Romano family underboss, Carlo, personally arrived at the hotel’s back entrance with his men.

A black armored SUV sat idling under the awning.

Carlo walked over, rubbing his sweating hands together.

A girl followed behind him.

She was petite.

She wore a cream-colored dress with her hair loosely tied back, keeping her eyes cast downward as she stood there.

She looked nothing like her flashy, attention-grabbing sister.

“Rocco, we’re deeply sorry about today,” Carlo said with a placating smile.

“Alessandra lost her mind, but the alliance cannot fall apart. We are willing to give up another five percent of the northern shipping profit. This is the Romano family’s youngest daughter, Bianca. She is twenty-one.”

Vincent leaned in and whispered in my ear. “The Romano family always claimed she has congenital hearing loss. She had treatment as a child and recovered some of her hearing, but she rarely speaks in public. She can lip-read, and she knows sign language.”

I looked at the girl.

She stood there quietly.

She didn’t look at Carlo.

She didn’t look at Vincent either.

Her eyes met mine.

Her gaze was clear.

No flattery.

No fear.

It was like she was looking at a tree.

“So the Romanos are foisting a deaf girl on me?”

My voice was low.

But Carlo’s knees visibly buckled.

“Rocco, please, there was simply no other option. Bianca is well-behaved and very smart. She won’t cause any trouble for the Moretti family…”

“Enough.” I cut him off.

I looked at Bianca.

She remained entirely still.

The wind caught the hem of her dress, but she didn’t even blink.

She truly gave no reaction.

Any normal person would have shown a change in expression after hearing what I just said.

She didn’t.

I was annoyed.

But this wedding had to happen.

The old Don’s stance was clear.

The Romano family just needed to deliver a daughter.

The contract bore the surname Romano, not the name Alessandra.

I turned my head toward Vincent. “Take her to the estate chapel.”

As I turned around, the girl suddenly raised her hand and made a sign.

Vincent translated softly, “She says, nice to meet you.”

I didn’t look back.

The wedding was stripped down.

No public banquet.

No media.

Just a quick process inside the private chapel at the Moretti estate.

A few elders from the family council sat in the front row. The Romano people looked worse with every passing second.

Bianca remained quiet the entire time.

She allowed herself to be guided into the chapel, stood by my side, and exchanged rings.

When it came time for the kiss, the officiant looked from me to her.

I looked down at her.

She tilted her face up slightly, her eyelashes lowered, her breathing light.

I leaned closer.

She didn’t pull away.

When my lips met hers, her body went rigid for a split second.

But she relaxed just as quickly.

It lasted only a moment.

Vincent clapped furiously from the pews.

The noise sounded loud enough to bring down the chapel ceiling.

After the ceremony, I returned to the study, ripped off my tie, and slumped into my chair.

Vincent walked in holding the newly signed alliance addendum, watching me cautiously.

“Don, where should Donna stay?”

“The suite next to the master bedroom.”

“You aren’t living together?”

“You think I’m short on women?”

Vincent shut his mouth instantly.

I rubbed my temples.

A quiet bride.

She couldn’t understand my situation.

She couldn’t hear the words I was never supposed to say aloud to outsiders.

Living with her would be no different than adding a beautiful, harmless piece of furniture to the Moretti estate.

That was fine by me, I told myself.

We’d keep to our own corners.

She couldn’t hear anyway.

To me, it was just a deal—a transaction the Romanos had botched and then hastily patched together.

What I didn’t know then was that this quiet girl would, in the days to come, strip me bare.
