I continued, “For example, you could’ve stopped it from happening. You could’ve kept Tim from leaving

the country. There were plenty of options. Instead, you chose to make me take his place. Janice… Do you really love me?”

Janice was smart. If she had truly wanted to change things, she could’ve handled it perfectly.

Yet, she didn’t.

She chose the most extreme outcome and let me be the one who paid for it.

She never even stopped to think if I would survive.

She had already changed. She just refused to admit it.

“I used to give in easily,” I said quietly, “but that was for the version of you who loved me. Not for the

version that chose to hurt me.”

I paused, then met her eyes.

“Janice… I don’t love you anymore.”

The love I once had for her had long since turned into nothing but disappointment and pain. I thought I had let it go, but the wound still ached deep down.

“I was wrong… I’m sorry…” She sank to the floor, clutching her head, her voice breaking into quiet sobs.

I sighed and stepped closer, then crouched in front of her. “If you really understand what you did, then turn yourself in. At least let me go in peace. Everything you’re doing now doesn’t change anything for me.

She looked up at me, her gaze unfocused, filled with pain and something she couldn’t let go of.

“Okay,” she whispered. “Whatever you say. Wait for me. I’ll finish everything and come find you.”

She stood, pushed the door open, and walked toward the police outside, one step at a time. Her eyes never left me, tears shimmering in them the entire time.

As for me, my figure slowly faded away until I vanished completely from the blood-soaked room.

When I opened my eyes again, I was back in that same old-fashioned room.

“It worked! Samuel, you did it.”

The mentor and the others were all cheering, their faces lit with excitement, as if I had just come back

from some kind of victory.

The mentor walked over with a warm smile and stopped in front of me.

“What kind of identity do you want to return with?”

I froze for a second, then asked without thinking, “I can’t be Samuel anymore?”

He shook his head, a hint of regret in his expression. “No. You’ve already died. That’s a fixed rule. You can live again under a new identity, but you won’t have to start from birth.”

I went quiet.

Something heavy settled in my chest, a kind of sadness I couldn’t really put into words.

I flipped through the list he handed me. It was filled with different lives. A rich heir. A rising celebrity. A

corporate professional.

I went through them one by one.

In the end, I chose to come back as a police academy student. Even with a new name, a new life, I still wanted to return to the work I believed in, to protect people.

I looked up at him. “What about Janice?”

The smile on his face faded. He stayed silent for a moment before answering.

“She admitted everything she did to you in that world. All of it. With the charges combined, she chose execution. Her soul should’ve returned to her original world, but the governing force passed judgment on

her. She’s gone now.”

I just stared at him.

She was…dead?

When she said she would finish everything and come find me, I thought she meant going back to that

world.

I never thought she would choose this.

I sat there, still, feeling strangely empty.

I couldn’t tell if it was relief or something else.

The mentor’s voice softened. “Have you decided? It’s time.”

I nodded and took a slow breath, bracing myself for what came next.

Life at the academy was demanding but steady.

I adjusted quickly to my new identity as Noah Vale.

I studied hard and trained relentlessly, determined to become an outstanding police officer. This time, I

would live well and love myself.
