Lost My Love to His Best Friend Chapter 03

Lost My Love to His Best Friend Chapter 03

Three whole days slipped by and Kieran never set foot in the apartment.

Once upon a time, I would’ve blown up his phone spamming texts for him to come back.

Now, I couldn’t give less of a crap where he’d vanished to.

Barely any of my personal junk lingered around the place.

I’d just dragged my last box of unwanted stuff to the complex dumpster when Kieran wandered in.

“Wren, I booked a fancy French bistro to make this right. Just give me a shot to apologize, okay?”

I was ready to shoot him down instantly, but he snatched my wrist and hauled me outside without letting me get a single word out.

When we walked in, Riley was already sitting at the table.

I knit my brows, and Kieran rushed to smooth things over.

“Riley’s been dying to eat here ever since she got knocked up. We were headed this way anyway, so I figured I’d bring her along.”

I spun to bolt, but Kieran forced me roughly back into my chair.

I’d barely plopped down when Riley let out a loud tsk and spun her back to him.

“Kieran, my bra clasp popped loose. Fix it for me fast.”

He stepped forward, then froze the second he met my frigid glare.

“Wren, why don’t you help her with it?”

I stared dead at him, my tone flat. “She called for you, not me.”

Kieran’s face soured, irritation thick in his voice.

“You told me to help her, don’t blow this whole thing out of proportion and pick another fight later.”

I fell silent.

Kieran’s fingers moved on autopilot as he fastened her clasp—like he’d done this a hundred times before.

As soon as he finished, Riley grinned boldly and pressed his palm straight to her chest.

“Kieran, feel these. They really blew up from being pregnant, huh?”

Kieran huffed a quiet laugh.

“Not bad. At least the kid won’t starve once it’s born.”

Riley’s cheeks burned red. She grabbed the back of his head and mashed his face into her chest.

“If you wanted a taste you could’ve just said so. It’s not like you haven’t gotten it before. C’mon, let me feed you some.”

They goofed off shamelessly, not a single care for anyone watching.

Sat across from the pair, I could barely breathe—it felt like all the air had been drained right out of the room.

Eventually, Kieran snapped out of his little bubble and remembered I existed.

He jerked back to put space between himself and Riley, a rare awkward flush crossing his face.

He cleared his throat and grabbed the menu.

“Wren, their foie gras is insane, I know it’s your favorite.”

“And their braised beef too.”

I listened, too drained to even muster a sigh.

Halfway through the meal, Kieran dropped the bombshell like we were just making small talk.

“Wren, Riley’s carrying my kid and lives alone, I’m constantly stressing over her. I’m gonna have her move in with us for a stretch.”

“She’s super picky with food, and you’re an amazing cook—you can handle all her daily meals.”

He tossed it out like we were chatting about trivial weather nonsense.

All I could do was laugh bitterly.

He dragged me out for this dinner not to patch things up, but to demand I wait hand and foot on his pregnant girl best friend.

I kept my voice calm and unshaken.

“No way. I’m not agreeing to that.”

Kieran’s face soured instantly.

“Wren, can you stop being so cold-hearted? This kid counts as yours too.”

I tugged my lips into a sharp, mocking smirk.

“Don’t rope me into your garbage drama. I’m not the one who knocked her up.”

Kieran’s composure shattered for a split second.

Riley tsked and smacked Kieran hard on the shoulder.

“Cut the act, Kieran. I told you ages ago she’s the type to chain her man to her hip—she’ll never buy our pure platonic bond. She’s already convinced we’re hooking up behind her back.”

She shot me a disgusted glance and curled her lip.

“I hate when women label me the other woman. Like everyone’s as desperate as her, lost without a man clinging to their side.”

“Alright, I’ll leave you two to hash this out.”

Riley rolled her eyes and stood to leave.

She only took two steps before her foot slipped, and she crashed hard onto the floor.

Kieran bolted over in a heartbeat.

Riley buried her face in his chest, clutching her belly and wailing in pain.

“Don’t panic, I’m rushing you straight to the ER.”

Kieran swept her up in one swift motion and bolted for the door, pure panic written all over his face.

I watched his receding frame, let out a hollow laugh, then turned and left the restaurant.
