I’ve Been Suspicious Since The Day I Was Born Chapter 11

“Nina… why?” My mom’s voice cracked. She couldn’t believe the girl she’d watched grow up could do something so vicious.

Nina fell to her knees, wailing.

“I’m sorry! I made a terrible mistake! I was jealous—Elena had everything, and I couldn’t even get into the school I wanted. I just wanted to play a joke! I never meant to actually hurt her!”

“A joke?” I sneered. “Playing with someone’s future? If I hadn’t double-checked, I’d be stuck at Stanfail right now.”

Crack!

Mrs. Shaw slapped Nina across the face.

“You beast! How could you do such a thing?” She hit her again and again.

Blood trickled from Nina’s mouth.

Then Mrs. Shaw knelt and banged her head on the floor.

“Sir, ma’am, it’s my fault! I didn’t teach her right! Punish me—she’s only eighteen, she has her whole life ahead! Please don’t call the police—it would ruin her!”

Her forehead was bleeding.

The performance was masterful.

My dad’s face softened. He looked at the blood, then at Nina sobbing.

“Elena… she did do something wrong,” he said carefully. “But you got your application back. No real damage done. Mrs. Shaw’s been with us ten years—she deserves some consideration. Nina just got into college. If we report her, it’s over for her. Let’s just fire them, give them some money, send them away. Okay?”

I couldn’t believe my ears.

No real damage?

“Dad, you think this is just about my application?” I pulled out my phone again. “You think this is the only bad thing they’ve done?”
