I’ve Been Suspicious Since The Day I Was Born Chapter 10

The TV screen lit up.

Night-vision footage. Time stamp: 2 AM, the day before the application deadline.

The camera was aimed at my desk.

I was asleep in bed.

The door opened silently. A shadow crept in.

She opened my laptop. The screen light revealed her face.

Nina.

She typed in my password.

My parents stopped breathing.

The video showed Nina without her usual sweet mask. Her eyes were full of jealousy and venom.

She opened the application portal and entered my ID and password.

“The password’s my birthday, right?” I turned to Nina. “You figured it out a long time ago.”

She was white as a sheet, lips trembling, silent.

The video played on.

She deleted Stanford. Typed in Stanfail Community College. Confirmed. Saved. Logged out.

Smooth. No hesitation.

Then she smiled coldly at my sleeping form, shut the laptop, and slipped out.

Dead silence in the living room. Only the TV’s faint hum.

My dad stared like his eyes would pop out.

My mom covered her mouth, tears streaming.

“This is your ‘well-behaved, polite’ Nina?” I paused the video on her nasty smirk.

“She didn’t just change my application. She nearly ruined my life.” I looked at my dad. “Still think I’m paranoid?”

His lips trembled. No words came.

He spun to stare at Mrs. Shaw and Nina.
