Mason could not hide the grief in his heart.

But then he thought of his parents locked away in a cell. He thought of the current Shifter King

standing not far away, Serena Frost’s father, Victor Frost, watching him without blinking.

He closed his eyes slightly. “I do…”

“No, you don’t!”

A furious shout shattered the orderly wedding ceremony.

Everyone turned to look at me at once.

Some looked confused. Some looked furious. Some looked moved.

“Jade?”

I lifted the hem of my snow-white gown and ran toward Mason as he rushed toward me too, neither

of us caring about anything else.

The moment we threw ourselves into each other’s arms, tears filled my eyes.

He held me and whispered beside my ear, “Get out of here, Jade. They won’t spare you.”

His voice was full of reluctance, helplessness, and panic.

I leaned in and kissed him, pushing the restorative elixir capsule I had already hidden in

into his mouth.

Since his memory had returned, he naturally knew what the capsule could do.

His eyes widened for a second. Then he gave a small nod and whispered, “Thank you.”

I slowly pushed him away, tears brimming in my eyes.

“I didn’t know what it was for, but I knew it had to be important to you.”

Serena Frost and Victor Frost had already walked up to us.

Serena raised her hand, about to slap me.

But the heavy slap never landed.

When I looked up, the veins on the back of Mason’s hand were standing out. His voice was

terrifyingly cold. “Serena, if you dare lay a single finger on her, I’ll make you pay dearly.”

Serena scoffed. “Mason Wilder? Have you forgotten you’re already powerless? If I hadn’t honored you by choosing you, you’d be no different from those lower-tier shifters.”

“How else could you possibly be holding a grand wedding in a place like this?”

Mason clenched his teeth and held himself back. “Serena, I already gave up the position of Shifter King to your family. Why are you still forcing me?”

Her expression suddenly softened. “Isn’t it because I love you?”

“But I don’t love you. Back when our families arranged this alliance, I already told you not to cling

to me.”

Serena flew into a rage. Her face twisted as she pointed at me and cursed without restraint. “All because of this painfully ordinary human? What does she have that I don’t?”

“You’d betray your entire family and abandon the responsibility of restoring your line just to be

with her?”

“Have you forgotten she betrayed you before? Cole was the one she brought home.”

Facing Serena’s accusation, Mason shot back, “That’s right. You’re better than her in every way, but you have one flaw. You’re not her.”

“I spent day and night with her. We survived life and death together. We shared every part of ourselves. I know her better than anyone.”

“If you hadn’t imprisoned my parents, I never would have come back. Even if she really had ended up with someone else, I would rather be the other man and quietly stay by her side.”
