I Work For My Roommate’s Love Pool Chapter 05

“Chloe! You’re the one who showed up to class looking like a train wreck. Why are you blaming

Evelyn?”

[SYSTEM WARNING! Dr. Cosmo’s rose-colored filter for the Host is cracking! Charm conversion

efficiency down 30%!]

[God! Evelyn is the one who looks like trash, so why is Chloe getting the heat? My Dr. Cosmo, stop

yelling at her!]

[Her image is totally tanking in Rainer’s eyes. This hurts to watch!]

Chloe stood there, mouth agape, unable to find a single word.

The face that used to look so ethereal through the System’s filter now just looked pathetic,

covered in real acne and a mask of pure panic.

“I… it’s not…” she stammered.

Rainer didn’t want to hear it. He checked his watch and grabbed his notes.

“You’re a massive disappointment. You aren’t the person I thought you were.”

“Get out. Stand in the hall for the rest of the lecture

He didn’t give her a second glance. He just started the lesson.

Chloe stood frozen.

The eyes of every student in the room were like needles, stabbing into her with mockery and spite.

She finally broke, running out of the room in tears.

I put my head down on the desk, barely containing my laughter.

This is brilliant.

When I fought to be perfect, they loved her and hated me.

Now that I’ve embraced the rot, she’s the one taking the fall for my mess.

When class ended, I took my sweet time packing up, ready to head back and continue my

downward spiral.

But as I stepped out of the building, a frantic figure blocked my path.

Chloe.

Her eyes were bloodshot and tear-streaked, but the malice in her gaze was sharper than ever.

“Evelyn! What are you playing at?” she hissed.

I scratched my ear, looking bored. “Nothing. Class, dorm, sleep. Is there a problem?”

“Don’t play dumb with me!” She lunged at my collar, but recoiled the second she smelled the mix of instant noodles, grease, and sweat clinging to me.

I smiled.

She took a deep breath, trying to play the concerned friend again.

“Evelyn, I know you’re hurt about Dr. Cosmo. But you can’t just destroy yourself like this!”

“A girl needs to take care of herself. Look at you. You look like a ghost. No man is ever going to love this.”

She paused, a flicker of that old superiority returning to her face.

“Ruining yourself just makes everyone pity me more. They’ll see that I’m the one who actually deserves to be cared for. You aren’t hurting me, Evelyn. You’re only destroying yourself.”

I looked at her and gave a slow, deliberate nod.

“You’re right.”

Chloe’s eyes lit up, thinking her words had worked.

I leaned in closer.

“You’re totally right. I can’t keep going like this.”

I grabbed her hand, my expression the picture of sincerity.

“Chloe, thank you. I’ve made a decision. Starting today, I’m putting all my time and energy into my great career!”

Chloe blinked, completely lost.

“Career?”

Then she beamed. “You mean your love life, right?

“I’m so glad you’re finally motivated to find a guy!”

I nodded and smiled.

My career? Studying exactly how to make you and your System go straight to hell.
