I Was Planning Our Wedding When He Told Me He Had a Wife Chapter 10

Evelyn’s uncle was full of grief and indignation. “Jason Miller! You bastard! How dare you show your face here?! You drove my sister to her grave! You did this to Evelyn! Get out! Get out of here!”

Jason didn’t dare fight back, only urgently pleading, “Let me see her… I’m her husband…”

“You don’t deserve to be!” The uncle ground his teeth in hatred. “Where was this ‘husband’ act when you walked out on her at her own wedding?! If Evelyn doesn’t pull through, I swear to God I will end you.”

Medical staff and other families gathered around, talking among themselves. Jason had never been so humiliated, so submissive in his life. He let himself be pushed and cursed, just stubbornly repeating, “Just let me see her once, just to know she’s safe. Please…”

In the chaos, a doctor who seemed to be in charge walked over, his expression serious. “Who is family for Evelyn Jones?”

“I am!” Both Jason and the uncle spoke at once.

The doctor looked at them. “Come with me.” They followed the doctor to a quiet consultation room.

The doctor’s tone was grave. “The miscarriage and severe bleeding caused significant physical trauma. She’ll need a long recovery. Also… We’ve observed some abnormalities in her mental state.”

Jason’s heart leapt into his throat. “What kind of abnormalities?”

“After waking up, it seems… her memory is affected.” The doctor chose his words carefully.

“She’s actively blocking out everything about today. When we ask, she deflects, asks about the wedding photos instead, or whether we’ve picked a venue yet.”

“She sounds… light, almost excited. Our preliminary assessment points to severe psychological trauma. It’s as if her mind has walled off the most painful memories as a protective measure.”

The uncle stared in shock, eyes wide. “What does that mean? Evelyn… she doesn’t remember today? Doesn’t remember her mom…”

The doctor nodded. “At least for now, her memory seems to remain at an earlier, relatively peaceful and happy time. For her fragile body and nervous system, this might be a form of protection.”

“You family must go along with it. Avoid anything that might trigger recall of the painful events. Otherwise, it could lead to emotional collapse, triggering more serious psychological issues.”

Listening, Jason’s heart was in turmoil. Amnesia? Forgot the betrayal, the humiliation, the blood, the death at the wedding? Her memory went back to… before the wedding preparations?

To that time when they were still sweetly planning the future, full of anticipation while picking dresses, discussing details?

An indescribable emotion surged in him. Heart-wrenching pain for his lover’s state, mixed with a shameful thread of relief.

If she’d forgotten… If it could all be pretended away… If he had a chance for a “clean” start to make up for it…
