Logan: “…”

He went completely silent for five whole seconds.

Then he pushed his glasses up again.

“Please follow me.”

He led me into the elevator and hit the top floor button.

It was dead silent inside the elevator.

I caught a glimpse of him secretly typing on his phone. I could vaguely see the words “Chief,” “Woman,” and

“Financial Dispute” on the screen.

I didn’t call him out.

The elevator reached the top floor.

The moment the doors slid open, the entire floor was as quiet as a deserted mountain.

It was the kind of quiet where everyone was slammed with work, yet everyone held their breath.

Logan guided me down the hallway and pushed open the heaviest door at the very end.

The Chief’s Office.

Huge, empty, with the whole city skyline framing the floor-to-ceiling windows.

Behind a deep mahogany desk sat a man.

My steps paused for a fraction of a second.

Not because I was nervous.

Because I finally remembered tiny fragments of that night.

Grant Vance.

He looked way better in person than in his card photo.

But that wasn’t important.

What mattered was-

He was looking right at me, his face as plain as water, completely devoid of emotion.

Like he was reading a document waiting for approval.

Logan spoke in a low voice beside him.

“Chief, this is the lady who claims to have a financial dispute with you.”

Grant’s gaze landed on my face, lingering for two seconds.

Then he spoke, his voice deep and laced with a hint of uncertainty.

“You are…”

“From that night.”

I finished his sentence for him, clear and direct.

“Doesn’t matter if you remember or not, I’ll cut straight to the chase.”

I took a deep breath.

“Grant, I’m pregnant. It’s yours.”

The air in the entire office instantly froze.

The tablet in Logan’s hand nearly smashed onto the floor.

Grant’s brows finally knitted together.

But I didn’t give him a chance to open his mouth, speaking at rapid-fire speed.

“I don’t need you to take responsibility, I don’t need you to marry me, and I don’t want a single thing from the Vance family. Nothing at all.”

His brows relaxed a bit.

Logan visibly let out a breath.

I said:

“I only have one request.”

Both of them looked at me at the exact same time.

“The medical procedure fee is $5,600.”

I pulled out my phone, opened the screenshot of the hospital’s standard fees, and held it out right in front of

him.

“You cover half, $2,800. Deal?”

Silence descended upon the office once again.

Grant stared at the numbers on my phone screen, his expression looking like someone had just performed a

freak show in front of him that he couldn’t comprehend at all.

Logan’s mouth was slightly agape, his hand suspended in mid-air halfway through pushing his glasses up, forgetting to bring it back down.

I waited for five seconds. Nobody spoke.

So I added another line.

“You can Venmo or Zelle me. I’m not picky.”
