I Was A Hopeless Gold Digger Protected By A Pain‑Linked Billionaire Chapter 06

I woke up the next afternoon.

The hospital room was quiet. Grant lay in the bed beside mine, with monitoring leads attached to

his wrist.

I was the one who’d been beaten – but he looked worse. No color in his face. Shallow breathing.

The moment I moved a finger, Edith rushed to my side. “Ms. Clarke – you’re awake!”

She hit the call button.

The doctor had just finished examining me when Grant’s vital signs stabilized as well.

The specialists exchanged looks. Complex expressions.

The lead doctor said quietly, “Mr. Hale’s condition is improving as well. Just like before, Ms.

Clarke’s physical condition directly affects him.”

A crash came from outside the door.

Serena stood there – pale as death.

She’d heard everything.

“What do you mean? How can her physical condition affect–Grant?”

Zane blocked her with his bandaged arm. “Ms. Shaw – you’re not welcome here.”

Serena shoved him. “Explain it to me! Did she drug him? Or have some kind of chip implanted in

him?”

I leaned against the pillows and sighed. “You still think I’m the one hurting him?”

“Who else could it be?” Tears spilled down her face “He was healthy before you came. Now he’s in and out of the hospital all the time. Jade – you’re a curse.”

Before I could respond, Grant’s eyes opened.

“Get out.”

Serena rushed to his bedside. “Grant – you’re awake. I knew you couldn’t really blame me. Yesterday was a misunderstanding. I was just worried about you being tricked.”

Grant pressed a button beside the bed. Two guards entered.

“Make her kneel.”

Serena couldn’t believe it. “What?”

The guards forced her down. She struggled, hair wild. “Grant Hale – I’m the Shaw family’s heiress!

You can’t do this to me!”

“Shaw family?” Grant looked at Zane. “Tell her.”

Zane pulled out a tablet. “As of this morning, Hale Group terminated all cooperation with Shaw Pharmaceuticals. Shaw’s stock has halted trading. The banks have already called in three outstanding loans. Also – Mr. Shaw is waiting outside.”

Serena’s eyes lit up. “My father’s here? Let him in! Dad – tell Grant our families have an

agreement!”

Victor Shaw walked in – and slapped her across the face.

“Shut up!”

Serena was stunned.

Victor turned to Grant with a strained smile. “Mr. Hale, we’ve spoiled her too much. Last night’s

whole ordeal was her idea. The Shaw family knew nothing about it.”

Serena held her cheek. “Dad – what do you mean?”

Victor wouldn’t even look at her. “Mr. Hale – we’ll compensate Ms. Clarke for everything. Just please go easy on us.”

I held up a finger. “Ten billion.”

Victor’s smile died. “Ms. Clarke – isn’t that too much?”

I pointed at my bandaged hand. “That’s compensation for pain and suffering.” Then I pointed at Grant. “And then there’s the life of the richest man in the city. Package deal. Fair price.”

Grant finally smiled. “That’s too low. All of Shaw Pharmaceuticals‘ core patents, plus fifty–one

percent of its shares.”

Victor went pale. “Mr. Hale – that would destroy us

Grant’s eyes went cold. “She tried to destroy me yesterday.”
