I Was A Hopeless Gold Digger Protected By A Pain‑Linked Billionaire Chapter 05

Grant gripped the club, the veins on the back of his hand bulging.

His face was deathly pale. His suit was wrinkled, and blood was still smeared at the corner of his

mouth.

Serena froze for two seconds – then lifted her foot off my wrist.

“Grant – let me explain. This woman stole Hale Group’s secrets and was seeing other men behind

your back. I was just trying to help you.“.

Grant didn’t acknowledge her. He dropped the club and bent down to lift me in his arms.

When he felt how cold I was, his arms trembled.

“Jade. Look at me. Can you still speak?”

I rested against him and thought carefully. “One point five billion is still there. I didn’t sign.”

Grant’s eyes went red. “You were about to die – and you’re still worried about money?”

“That’s not money. That’s my life.”

He clenched his jaw like he wanted to yell at me – but all that came out was: “Fine. I’ll give you

another one point five billion. Just stay awake.”

Serena watched Grant holding me, her eyes wide with shock.

“Grant – she admitted it. She’s only with you for your money. What do you even see in her?”

Grant finally looked at her. “I have money. She likes money. What’s the problem?”

Serena stammered. “But she’s a liar. There’s proof she sold you out on that phone.”

I lifted my head weakly. “You really have nothing else to say, do you? Go chew on a lighter if you’re

that desperate for attention.”

Grant glanced down at me. “Less talking.”

“Fine.”

He carried me off the stage. Every step made him tremble slightly.

Elena tried to shrink back into the crowd.

But Grant stopped. “Everyone who touched her say where you are.”

Pandemonium broke out.

“Mr. Hale – I was just watching!”

“I never touched Ms. Clarke!”

“It was Ms. Shaw – she made us!”

The ones who had hit me hardest dropped to their knees the fastest.

Serena screamed, “What are you afraid of? With the Shaws behind you, he wouldn’t dare turn

against half of The Manhattan Elite Circle!”

Grant laughed coldly. “Half the Elite Circle? You’re not even worth that much.”

He turned to Zane. “Lock down the club. Surveillance footage, livestreams, phone recordings-

don’t miss a single piece. Anyone who touched her make sure their family’s companies are

suspended from trading tomorrow.”

Zane nodded through his pain. “Understood.”

Elena went pale and tried to grab Grant’s arm. “Mr. Hale – I just poured one drink! My father’s

already bankrupt because of you. Can’t you leave me something?”

Grant pulled away. “When you forced that drink down her throat, did you ever think about sparing

her? Take her.”

Guards grabbed Elena. Her legs gave out, and she collapsed to the floor.

Serena still wouldn’t back down.

“Grant – you’d burn the Shaws for a gold digger? Your father already agreed to our marriage. He

won’t approve of this.”

Grant paused. “Whoever agreed to it, marry him. I’m not interested.”

Serena’s face went white.

I couldn’t help it – a laugh escaped me. Then my stomach seized. Blood trickled from my mouth.

Grant’s body went rigid, and he spat out a mouthful of blood as well.

His arms tightened around me. His knees hit the floor.

The crowd gasped.

“Mr. Hale!”

“Someone get a doctor!”

Serena stared at us – finally realizing something was wrong.

Grant’s body went rigid, and he spat out à mouthful of blood as well.

She stepped back, voice shaking. “What’s going on”

Grant didn’t answer. He shielded me protectively and barked at the approaching medics: “Her first.

If she doesn’t wake up – no one touches me.”

Then he collapsed with me in his arms.
