I Was A Cold‑Blooded Gold Digger, But I Pretended To Bow Out Gracefully Chapter 04

Something unreadable flickered in Felix’s eyes.

He didn’t answer. He carried Daisy away to treat her slightly bruised injury.

But he acted as if he hadn’t seen the horrifying burn covering my arm.

I sighed.

That girl really didn’t know her own strength. At least I’d had the sense to turn the stove off first.

I just didn’t know why the hot soup felt like it had been poured over my heart.

It ached, and it burned.

After I cleaned up the kitchen, someone knocked. It was Felix’s assistant, bringing medicine.

Several burn creams stood out among the items.

I reached for them automatically, but he pulled them away.

“Sorry, Ms. Vance. These are for Ms. Moore.”

“Mr. Sterling said Ms. Moore was splashed by the soup and needs burn prevention.”

I withdrew my hand awkwardly. “Sorry. Go ahead in.”

Back in the guest room, I took out my phone and confirmed the sale to the agent.

The apartment was gone. The car was being sold. There was nothing left to hold me in this city.

I sent a message to the study-abroad consultant I had contacted long ago.

My budget was high, so the reply came fast.

I had spent my entire college years running after money, never once tasting the freedom of being a student.

I’d almost forgotten that I was still young.

That I could still live for myself.

The next morning, I woke to a sharp pain in my scalp.

My eyes flew open!

The face I hadn’t seen in years loomed over me, more terrifying than a ghost.

He yanked my hair and dragged me up. “You little brat, so this is where you’ve been hiding all these years.”

“Out here being some rich man’s mistress? Have you no shame!”

I struggled in terror, the old fear of almost being sold into marriage flooding back.

“Let go of me!”

My mind cleared, and I caught a familiar figure by the door. I instinctively called out.

“Felix! Help me…”

But the next second, the man calmly lit a cigarette.

“Sienna, you made Daisy cry so pitifully. You need to learn a lesson.”

My father’s face twisted even more.

“You brat, how do you think I found you?”

“You’re so filthy I’d be ashamed to sell you off!”

Through the smoke, Felix’s face blurred, and I couldn’t tell

whether the flash of reluctance I saw was real or my imagination.

Daisy poked her head out from behind Felix. “Sienna, no matter what, you can’t just ignore your own father.”

“I worked hard to find your father for you.”

As her words fell, the door slammed shut.

The moment despair flooded me, I reached under the pillow and pulled out a long knife.

Just like in countless nightmares, I pressed it against his throat.

His eyes went wide with terror. A body hollowed out by years of smoking and drinking was no match for the strength I’d built through deliberate training.

When the police took him away, I suddenly felt

that the home I’d searched for all these years, the little bit of tenderness I’d held on to, and the nightmares I’d run from

were all nothing in the end.

That night, I boarded a flight to another country.

And I left Felix a parting gift.

I cast the surveillance footage to the TV and left the information I’d gathered on Daisy on the table.

Seeing the paused screen, he froze, then instinctively pressed play.

Beside him, Daisy screamed. “No…”
