I Walked Away From His Regret Chapter 04

I Walked Away From His Regret Chapter 04

The next morning, I packed my things and left the house.

Edward was waiting by the door.

“I have a meeting at your company today. Want to head out together?”

Our companies had a joint project right now.

I grabbed my car keys. “The people at my company don’t know we’re married. It’d look weird if someone saw us. Let’s go separately.”

Edward was quiet for a moment. “Okay.”

During the meeting, I sat far away from Edward. When the general manager started his opening pleasantries, the office group chat blew up.

[OMG, Mr. Lawrence is even hotter up close! I’m so jealous of his wife!]

[Haha, jealous of his wife? Why not jealous of his first love? She just moved back and got slotted right in as his assistant. I heard her apartment is even one of Mr. Lawrence’s private properties. How lucky can you get!]

[You can still find photos of his first love from years ago on his Ins. He wouldn’t even delete them after they broke up, but have you ever seen a single photo of his wife on there?]

[Wait, why didn’t he marry his first love then?]

[Word is she was the one who dumped him. Rumor has it from one of Mr. Lawrence’s old juniors that when they broke up, Mr. Lawrence dropped everything even with business going on, chased her all the way to another country to beg her to take him back, even got in a fight with someone. A passerby got a photo of Mr. Lawrence holding flowers, completely broken down on the street. It was such a mess!]

[I saved that one.]

[Jesus, he lost so much weight back then, he was basically skin and bones!]

[Then he got married less than a year later, probably just settled for someone when he was heartbroken. But who can forget that big passionate old flame? Now that she’s back, she’s already his personal assistant. You know what that means.]

[Yeah, we all know what that means.]

I put down my phone, glanced over at Edward talking to the general manager, and zoned out a little.

So he’d had that kind of blazing, passionate relationship before.

He’d gotten into a fight like a mess for love.

He’d lost all his cool and chased someone halfway across the world.

When Edward and I were together, we fought sometimes too. He was always so calm. He’d just watch me get angry quietly, and calmly tell me to calm down.

“Sheryl, being this angry won’t solve anything.

“We can talk when you’ve cooled off.”

Once I was so fed up I told him we should break up.

He just froze for a second, and said, “Okay.”

Then he turned around and left.

He never texted me again, never reached out at all, like he’d really disappeared and it was really over.

I cried every day, until a week later on a pouring rainy day.

I called him, I couldn’t even control the sobs in my voice. “Edward, I regret it.”

On the phone, I heard him take a deep breath.

An hour later, someone knocked on my front door.

He was soaked through with rain, completely disheveled, and held me so tight.

“Sheryl, don’t say the word breakup lightly.

“Don’t… ever say that again.”

That was the most out of control I’d ever seen him. Back then I thought, he was such a calm man, if he’d do this for me, he must love me.

Now looking at the links in the group chat, going back through his history with Queenie, I realized how naive I’d been.
