I Took the Money and the Quadruplets Chapter 19

The news that Liam Walker was staging a daily vigil outside my house quickly spread across the country.

TMZ reporters were practically camped out on my street, documenting the entire saga. The internet gleefully followed along.

“Day One: Ex-Husband Blocked by Ex-Father-in-Law’s Security.”

“Day Two: Ex-Husband’s Flower Delivery Rejected.”

“Day Three: Ex-Husband Gets Soaked in a Downpour.”

Social media was having a field day.

Walker Energy’s public relations department was probably having a collective meltdown.

But Liam seemed completely unfazed.

A few days later, his office announced he would be attending the Houston Energy Summit and giving a live interview on CNBC.

My mother saw the news and sniffed.

“He’s probably trying to reclaim some of his dignity through work.”

I didn’t say anything, but when the broadcast started, I turned on the television.

On screen, Liam sat in a studio, wearing a dark, impeccably tailored suit, the blue Walker Group logo displayed prominently behind him.

For the first half of the interview, he was the Liam I knew: sharp, articulate, and utterly in command, fielding complex market questions with ease.

Until the host asked the inevitable question.

“Mr. Walker, the market has recently expressed some…concern…about the stability of the Walker family. How do you respond to that?”

The studio fell silent.

I held my breath, waiting for him to deploy a carefully crafted, evasive PR response.

But he didn’t.

He was quiet for a few seconds, then he looked directly into the camera.
