I Took a Late Night Driving Job and Found My Ex Waiting Chapter 09

“Nathan, you’re not the one who’s sick. I can’t do it again.”

I turned and walked away.

“Then I’ll come with you.”

I spun around. He was holding a fruit knife. “Emily, if you die, I’ll go with you.”

“Put that down!” I grabbed his wrist. “Don’t joke about this.”

“Do you think I’m lying?” He placed my hand over his own wrist. “This scar—I made it after you left. If Rebecca hadn’t found me in time, I’d already be dead.”

I bit my lip to hold back the tears.

“Emily, the first time you left, I nearly died. If you leave a second time, I can’t promise she’ll find me again.”

I ran my fingers over that deep scar and couldn’t speak.

He reached up and wiped my tears gently. “Did you think I’d moved on, all these years?”

I looked at him. He shook his head. “No. Never. I never use rideshare. I knew it would be you that night. Emily, I can’t wait another five years.”

“Don’t!” I gripped his wrist tightly. “Don’t die… I’ll do the treatment…”
