I Told My Domineering Husband I Never Enjoyed It Chapter 08

The next day, his mother looked genuinely surprised.

She didn’t tease him. Instead, she frowned.

“I only found out recently that Seren actually had a boyfriend her own age back then.”

“The boy came from a modest family, so her mother wasn’t happy about it.”

“But no one was going to force them apart.”

“…What?” Rhys heard himself ask, his voice coming out hoarse.

He stood there motionless, his fingers curling tightly at his side.

His mother smiled. “Well, of course you wouldn’t know.”

“You think Seren would ever tell you something like that?”

“I swear, that girl is terrified of you.”

But still, his mother had understood what he really meant.

It wasn’t long before Seren’s relationship ended, and soon after, the engagement was set.

He’d heard later that she’d been reluctant.

But Mrs. Carrington had smiled and told her, “Rhys likes you very much.”

“He’s watched over you since you were little.”

“He’s always been there for you.”

“If you turn him down, you’ll break his heart.”

Seren had blinked in surprise.

“So that’s why he’s always bossing me around-he’s had a crush on me this whole time!”

In the early days of their relationship, she’d been awkward around him.

Even so, she’d reached for his hand first.

She always found something for them to do together.

And slowly, her words began to flow more freely.

Then came the engagement. Then the wedding.

Everything happened naturally.

After they got married, Seren smiled at him with eyes full of warmth.

Every time he came home, she’d throw herself into his arms.

She was a little afraid of him. But she loved him, too.

She’d call him “honey” while loosening his tie.

If he so much as tilted his head down, she’d rise onto her tiptoes and press a kiss to his lips.

Whenever he opened his arms, she’d happily curl up against his chest with the sweetest smile.

She listened to him. In those pretty eyes of hers, there was only him.

She was always the one finding something to talk about.

Whenever he frowned, she’d quietly reach over and hold his hand.

Over and over, it was she who broke the silence of his world.

Rhys had always known he was a dull man.

But Seren-Seren was utterly adorable.

But at some point-he couldn’t say exactly when-the love in her eyes had simply… vanished.

All that remained was suspicion. Resentment.

And the cold distance of someone ready to walk away at any second.

She pushed him away. Rejected him. Stopped needing him.

It was as if… he had done something wrong.

Or perhaps… he had been wrong from the very beginning.
