I Saw Our Remaining Meetings Dropped From 31441 To 9 Chapter 07

Carter’s voice shook. He stared at me, afraid I wouldn’t believe him, and yanked out his phone to

show their chat.

“Look, I turned her down. I don’t know why she just showed up…”

I turned my head and studied him, sweat beading across his forehead.

“I’ve got plans today. You don’t need to cook.”

The room went still. His eyes went flat and dark. “I already explained. You’re seriously still going to throw a tantrum?”

I was speechless.

“Carter, you used to be better at understanding words. What happened?”

“I’ve already said it a million times-your business has nothing to do with me. I won’t control who you see. Isn’t that what you always wanted?”

His face went rigid. The line of his jaw looked carved out of stone. He spun around and walked out.

“Fine. Don’t regret it.”

Downstairs, I heard Jenna’s delighted voice asking if he’d go to the aquarium.

Before, I would’ve lost it.

Carter was my future husband. I wanted a spotless guy. If anyone else touched him, I’d explode.

Now, listening to him deliberately raise his voice as he agreed, I just smirked and picked up my

phone to reply to Miles. [Sounds perfect. See you at noon.]

Miles didn’t talk much. He barely even changed expressions. But there was something in his eyes-

a quiet spark, a hidden smile-that I was completely hooked on.

Days passed. I threw Carter completely out of my mind. The next time I heard about him was another Friday.

Carter and I had almost never gone this many days without seeing each other. Even on a huge

campus, I’d still glued myself to him every day.

“That super hot finance guy? I think he’s with Jenna from our dorm. Saw them holding hands

outside the other day.”

“Didn’t he have a childhood friend? That girl who followed him everywhere. No drama?”

“No idea. Haven’t seen her around. Maybe they’re fighting?”

I sped up packing my bag and pretended not to hear.

Miles didn’t have afternoon classes. We’d planned to go to Adventureland.

Just thinking about seeing my cute future husband again made my mouth impossible to keep

straight.

That sweet smile died the second I spotted Carter.

He stood outside the girls’ dorm, lips pressed tight. When he saw me, his eyes lit up.

“Let’s go.”

I’d forgotten-every Friday we always went home together. My head started pounding.

Carter naturally reached for my backpack. I took a tiny step back, and his brow furrowed.

“Still mad?”

Before I could say anything, people passed by stealing glances and whispering.

The name Jenna floated in. Carter’s expression stiffened.

He studied my not-so-great face and frowned.

“You’ve been dodging me. Did you hear some messed-up gossip?”

I shook my head, then nodded.

I wasn’t dodging him-I was just deep in a love haze and had zero attention to spare.

But yeah, I’d heard the rumors.

“Don’t listen to that crap. We’re just in the same club, We have to interact. You can’t seriously be

policing that too…”

I kicked at the ground absently. The afternoon sun was brutal.
