I Saw My Tragic Future Through A Random Wedding Forum Poll Chapter 06

The wedding had barely ended when several police officers walked into the hotel.

The color drained from Darcy’s face the second she saw them.

I pulled out my phone and showed the officers everything I had saved: screenshots from the

wedding group chat, the recording from outside my hospital room, and the video that had captured

the driver during the hit-and-run.

“I’m the one who filed the report,” I said.

“Someone hit me on purpose.”

Darcy stumbled back.

“Carys, what are you talking about?”

An officer stepped in front of her.

“Darcy Fenner, you’re suspected of involvement in an aggravated assault. We need you to come

with us for questioning.”

I put my phone away and looked at her.

“I told you.”

“I wasn’t letting this go.”

Bastian never finished his wedding.

He left Maribel behind and returned to the place he and I had shared.

The apartment was deathly quiet when he opened the door.

My shoes, clothes, and personal documents were all gone. The closet held nothing but his suits.

Then he noticed the hospital report on the dresser.

His hands shook as he picked it up.

Comminuted fracture of the right leg.

Pregnancy: six weeks. Miscarriage following trauma.

His breathing stopped.

A memory came rushing back.

I had once wrapped my arms around his neck and laughed.

“Bastian, once we’re married, are we going to start thinking about a baby?”

At the time, he had answered without much thought.

“Let’s get through the wedding first.”

The baby had already been there.

Then he remembered what he had said outside my hospital room.

“Even if she can’t dance anymore, I can take care of her.”

Bastian sank to the floor, clutching the report in both hands.

He could buy another home.

He could pay for the best doctors.

He could support me for the rest of my life.

But he couldn’t buy back my stage.

And he couldn’t bring back the child neither of us had even known existed.

“Carys…”

He called me.

All he got was the cold automated message telling him my phone was unavailable.

After the wedding, Cillian drove me back to the hospital.

I finally asked the question that had been sitting between us all day.

“Cillian, why did you help me?”

He was quiet for a moment.

Then he said, “Four years ago. Harrowmere Performing Arts Center. Swan Lake.”

I stared at him.

“You danced Odette,” he continued. “At the curtain call, the spotlight hit you, and the whole

audience stood up.”

His voice softened.

“I was in the third row. I clapped until my hands hurt and thought, I really want to meet/her

someday.”

He paused.

“Then I found out you were engaged to Bastian, so I backed off.”

“Then two weeks ago, the Bellcourt received a request to change the bride’s name on the wedding booking from Carys Hartwell to Maribel Hartwell.”

My fingers tightened.

“I looked into it and realized you had no idea.”

Cillian glanced at me.

“I didn’t know if you’d need a way out.”

“But I wanted you to have one.”

“So I booked the Terrace Ballroom for the same day, even if it meant making a complete fool of

myself.”

I looked at him.

“What if I hadn’t-”

“Then I would’ve been the fool,” he said it like it was nothing. “Still better than leaving you with no

way out.”

Then his expression turned serious.

“Carys, I know what happened today was a practical solution for you.”

“If you ever want out of this marriage, tell me.”

He held my gaze.

“I’ll sign whatever needs signing. No delays. No questions.”

His eyes were clear, without calculation or the kind of arrogance Bastian had always disguised as

enderness.

Cillian had simply left a door open for me. Whether I walked through it was entirely my

choice.

I nodded without saying anything.

He didn’t push.

My phone buzzed.

A news alert flashed across the screen.

HARROWMERE HIT-AND-RUN CASE: 28-YEAR-OLD WOMAN ARRESTED AFTER
