Cold wind moved through the garden.

By the time Grayson dragged Lily to the dog pen, she could barely stand.

The hunting dogs had been brought back.

They growled behind the fence.

Lily shook her head.

“Grayson, please.”

“I know I was wrong.”

“Let me go.”

“I will do anything you want.”

He looked down at her.

“When Vivian begged you, did you let her go?”

Lily cried so hard she could hardly breathe.

“I was afraid of losing you.”

Grayson raised one hand.

The guards opened the gate.

Lily screamed and tried to run.

They pushed her inside.

The dogs began barking.

Lily’s screams filled the night.

“Grayson, save me.”

“I was wrong.”

“Please.”

Grayson stood outside the fence.

His face was pale.

He did not move.

He watched Lily fall to the ground.

He watched the dogs rush toward her.

But he did not see Lily.

He saw Vivian.

Grayson did not go with her.

He sent her to an Ashford-owned private medical center.

Every doctor there answered to the family.

His order was simple.

“Do not let her die.”

“She needs to stay alive for what comes next.”

When doctors cleaned Lily’s wounds, she passed out several times.

She begged for pain medicine.

The doctors looked away.

“Mr Ashford ordered that you receive none”

Lily screamed until her voice broke.

“You’re lying.”

“Grayson would never do this to me.”

“He loved me.”

No one answered.

Grayson sat in his study all night.

He used every Ashford contact.

His people checked airports, hospitals, docks, highways, and private airfields.

They found no sign of Vivian.

Soon, he understood.

His father had helped her.

Grayson knelt outside his father’s door for three days.

Mr. Ashford Sr. refused to see him.

He sent one message.

“Ms. Mercer is no longer connected to this family.”

During those three days, more evidence reached Grayson.

Lily had paid a technician to replace Vivian’s welcome video with the private photographs.

Lily had poured the tea on her own arm.

Several old events where Vivian had supposedly attacked Lily were also lies.

Lily had pushed Vivian until she reacted.

Then she had edited the camera videos and only shown Grayson the final moments.

Each new truth felt like a slap.

Grayson remembered Vivian trying to explain.

At first, her eyes had held pain.

Later, they held disappointment.

In the end, she had stopped explaining.

Grayson closed the file and went to the private medical center.

Lily saw him enter her room.

Hope appeared on her face.

“Grayson, I knew you would come back.”

He stood at the end of her bed.

His eyes held nothing.

Her smile disappeared.

“Grayson, it hurts.”

“Hurts?”

His voice was quiet.

“Vivian’s wounds were far worse.”

He looked at the doctor.

“Change every dressing each day.”

“Clean the wounds with alcohol first.”

“Do not give her pain medicine unless her life is in danger.”

Lily moved back against the bed.

“No.”

“It will kill me.”

Grayson looked at her.

“I won’t let you die.”

“You owe Vivian.”

“You will pay for it every day.”

Lily screamed and begged.

Grayson walked out.

Punishing Lily brought him no peace.

He returned to the empty bedroom at the Ashford estate.

He looked at the pale mark on the wall where the wedding portrait had once hung

The room had once been full of Vivian.

She read beside the window.

She slept in his arms when it rained.

She pulled his tie crooked and laughed while fixing it.

Now she was gone.
