I Returned the Heart, but the Wolf King Gave Me His Chapter 03

Patricia’s pov

With that, the car pulled away.

I stood there as a cold wind cut through me.

Fighting the pain in my body, I started walking toward the pack house, one step at a time.

One in the morning. That was the exact time of the Coldcreek Pack pileup years ago.

The exact time Elizabeth’s heart was cut out and given to me.

Alpha Michael never let me forget that.

It’s burned into my bones.

Thirteen miles. It took me four hours.

In the night sky, clouds gathered around the moon, then scattered, then gathered again.

By the time I reached the pack house halfway up the mountain, I was on the verge of collapse.

I lifted a weak hand and pressed the doorbell. My vision went dark. Just as I was about to pass out, the door opened.

“Patricia Moore, go clean Mary up. She’s exhausted.”

Alpha Michael’s bare chest was covered in fresh hickeys and claw marks.

My heart seized with pain. I clenched my jaw.

I looked up into Alpha Michael’s eyes.

What I was thinking was—

Alpha Michael. One more week. Then I won’t owe you a thing anymore.

I looked away.

Head lowered, I walked slowly to the master bedroom of the pack house.

The sprawling black bed reeked of sex.

Numbly, I walked in and gently shook Mary awake.

She opened her eyes and looked up at me, coy.

“Patricia Moore, thank you. This is so much trouble.”

“Alpha Michael, he—”

I cut her off and helped her into the bathroom.

I filled the tub with warm water and used a washcloth to gently wipe the marks from her body.

Half an hour later, I helped her back to bed.

The whole time, Alpha Michael watched with a mocking glint in his eyes.

When I had finished everything and was about to leave the room—

Alpha Michael spoke.

“Patricia Moore. Isn’t there something you forgot to tell me today?”

His gaze drifted, casual and pointed, toward my stomach.

My heart clenched. I forced a bitter smile, shook my head, and made my way downstairs to the servants’ quarters.

Once the door was closed, I leaned against it, trembling. My body slid slowly to the floor.

I pulled the pills from my bag and swallowed them all at once.

After taking them, I drifted into a foggy sleep.

But I hadn’t been asleep long when the door was kicked open.

I jolted awake. Alpha Michael stood in the doorway, fury blazing across his face.

“Patricia Moore, what the hell did you do to Mary in that bath?!”

“Why is she bleeding?!”

I pushed myself up. Alpha Michael’s hands were covered in blood.

I opened my mouth to speak—

Alpha Michael grabbed me by the arm and dragged me to the car.

“You’re coming with us to Wolf Pack Hospital!”

“If anything happens to Mary, I will make you pay!”

Thrown into the back seat, I clutched my pounding heart. The pain was so bad I couldn’t breathe.

In the lobby of Wolf Pack Hospital, I watched Alpha Michael carry Mary inside, so careful, so tender.

I sat alone on the cold metal chair, jaw clenched, enduring the pain.

A few minutes later, Alpha Michael came out.

“Come with me. Mary’s hemorrhaging. You and Mary share a rare blood type. You’re donating blood. Now.”

He said it coldly and turned away, like it was the most routine thing in the world.

For three years, I had agreed to everything he asked.

But this time—I thought about the heart removal surgery a week away.

For the first time, I refused.

“Alpha Michael. I won’t do it.”

“What did you say?”

Alpha Michael spun around, disbelief written across his face.

When what I’d said sank in, he let out a short laugh and leaned against the wall.

“Patricia Moore. Are you confused about how things work?”

“Does an Omega have the right to say no to an Alpha?”

Voice dripping with cold contempt, Alpha Michael pulled a dagger from one of his pack guards.

“Two choices.”

“Come with me and donate your blood.”

“Or use this dagger right now and cut out the heart that was never yours to begin with.”
